This is the best Mexican food in Meridian. After living in Texas for half of my life, finding good Mexican food in Mississippi was…a challenge. This family-run restaurant serves my favorite comfort food, and I’ve never been served a dish that I haven’t enjoyed! It’s as close to authentic Mexican as I can find, so don’t expect Taco Bell here. The ingredients are fresh, everything is cooked to order, and the portions are generous and usually leave leftovers for lunch the next day. Sometimes the staff is overwhelmed by large crowds, and service can be slower than I’d like, BUT IT’S TOTALLY WORTH THE WAIT. I love going on Tuesdays for inexpensive Taco Tuesday, but any day is a good one at Don Cheques!

Wonderful! We went here on a recommendation and it was literally the best recommendation ever. The atmosphere was like going to someone’s house. The music was not loud like other places, the waitress was super polite and attentive. The food was delicious. It tasted like grandma was in the back cooking. The portions are huge. Like, fill your belly and take some home for a snack type of huge. I highly recommend this place. Es un diez de diez. Muy auténtico.

Everything we ordered was fantastic. The green chilaquiles were hands-down amazing, the fresh lemonade was perfectly refreshing, and my husband couldn’t stop talking about how fresh and flavorful his chicken chimichanga was.

I am loving this place! The servers are amazing, food is wonderful, and they are so good with kids and people in general! I got the mango margaritas and it was delicious… also I would have taken a picture of my food but forgot. It was amazing (I got the plate that had chicken, fajita-style vegetables, and rice and beans with some tortillas. It and the people were wonderful!)

My wife and I ordered birria tacos to go via phone and when we arrived our food was waiting and still warm as though they timed our arrival perfectly. The location was well lit and we could smell the authentic aroma of sumptuous food before we opened the door. The restaurant was very clean and neat. The setup as far as tables, the different displays, music, and the bar was really cool. The overall atmosphere was impeccable. The host was very kind and I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for authentic Mexican food. My wife and I simultaneously agreed that we had found a new date night restaurant. It’s definitely a hidden gem. ☆☆☆☆☆

Ordered to go food. For a beef burrito, shrimp fajitas, and queso our food was over $40. Which I don’t normally mind but the shrimp are 41/50 shrimp. The smallest and cheapest shrimp you can buy. The queso was $5 and it came in a 2 oz to go ramekin. Same for the salsa which we were also charged for. It has good flavor, but what you’re paying for it was laughable, I never write reviews, but it just seemed ridiculous to me.
