I stumbled upon Balistreri’s because my significant other and I have been rewatching the Sopranos. After hearing the cast talk about sfogliatelle all the time peaked his interest and he was dying to try some. After some research I was happy to hear Balistreri’s has this on hand. They are also in the Southtowns so it wasn’t too far of a drive.
This is a family run bakery. It is owned by a couple who still still run the place. They were there when I arrived and they were very helpful and enthusiastic about their products. There is a large assortment of made in house pastries, breads, cookies and to go dinners.
I took home some sfogliatelle and cannolis. The sfogliatelle was delicious. Once heated a little the top layer was flaky and crisp. The filing was the perfect blend of almond with a hint of citrus. The cannolis were huge and had plenty of filling and toppings. These were top notch and right in line with the NYC Italian bakeries I used to frequent. We are lucky to have this spot! I absolutely recommend to stop by and visit when you are in the area!

We were only in Buffalo a short time and needed a bakery that was opened past morning hours on a Saturday, Balistreris did not disappoint! I never had a cannoli I can say I really loved, until now! So much so that we went back Sunday for more CANNOLI and more CHEESECAKE which my husband loved! We also tried the CREAM PUFF (my other favorite), eclair, and pastry heart. All were delightful! We also purchased the bear claw and sfogliatella, which look delicious, but we have not had the room to try them yet! We took the MANICCOTI and the original FOCACCIA to go for dinner when we got home. The sauce is more sweet than acidic and totally made a difference, so good! To top off the amazing food, the customer service is top notch- father and daughter are super nice and inviting! We live too far away to be regulars, but any time we are back in town we certainly will not miss stopping in!

I LOVE the quality of this bakery! My first time visiting as a recommendation from a friend who regularly utilizes their catering. The best cannoli I’ve ever had is their sprinkle. The shell is SO delicious and the filling has a delicate flavor that exudes family tradition. I also am a HUGE fan of their chocolate chip cookie. The focaccia pizza uses a sweet sauce, which my husband LOVED. This is our new spot for treats, especially on Sundays

The loaf of bread I got was super stale, definitely wasn’t made fresh that day. The cannolis were okay, there are better ones out there. The black and white cookie was also stale.
Also they had a couple of dogs behind the counter where the food cases are. I’m not certain but I feel that is probably some kind of health code violation.
The ladies working there were nice however. If the bread wasn’t also stale I probably wouldn’t have wrote a review. The loaf was consumed within 3 hours of purchase.

Had been trying to find an authentic Italian pastry shop since moving from Utica, Ny in 1987, the so called cannoli these bakeries sell taste like whipped cream not ricotta what so ever, it’s sad when Wegmans has better Cannoli than bakeries, but I’ve found authentic Cannoli after 38 years of living in the Buffalo area, and the tomato pie is to die for, found this pastry shop as a last resort and I’m glad I did, the people who complain apparently don’t know what good Italian pastries should taste like, great, friendly customer service, and if u don’t like the way the floors look, blame the owner not the renter. Been coming here now for about 4 months and will be coming back again and again, sooooo good. Also the half moons are spot on here, chocolate on bottom not vanilla, ever have a Hemstroughts bakery halfmoon from Utica, very much the same except I believe hemstroughts uses dark chocolate for the cake part but the frosting is the same, fluffy cream not this lemony junk other bakeries try to pass off as half moons
