I’ve been to Half Sour often, having worked in the South Loop for the past 8 years. My organization opted to throw an event there recently and we were so pleased with how well everything turned out. The staff was super friendly and communicative, they had the AV setup ready for us before we got there, the good was great, and it was just all-in-all a really positive experience. Cannot recommend Half Sour enough for your event needs.

Service was Not really great. Servers seemed to be arguing over who had to take our table. I know everyone’s working their butts off these days to make a living so I don’t want to be too hard on the staff. But the food was even worse. Tried it twice now in the last few months as we are new to the neighborhood it’s just so disappointing. We ordered the nachos. The chips were stale . The cheese didn’t even taste like cheese. It tasted like some kind of mustard sauce. The fryer was broken so we couldn’t get fries. The mac & cheese was soggy and had no taste to it. The matzoh ball soup also flavorless. Even the chicken pecan apple salad was less than desirable, lettuce was lamp and brown apples tasted old. Also, the Portion sizes are not very generous. Wish I had better things to say as we thought it would be a hidden gem.

We live near by and have stopped in a few times and ordered in as well. Truly 5/5 food and experience when dining in.
Today we stopped in for brunch and the donut of the day or week was a cinnamon roll which was easily the best I’ve ever had. They have vegetarian options on the menu which is a plus. I had the vegetarian hash, and it was beautiful, I skipped eating the egg but the rest was delicious.
We’ve had the cheese curds as well and they are 10/10. Not sure you could go wrong at all, highly recommend.

I tried their latkes with smoked salmon dip. I really liked this dish because it had two of my favorite things and both worked well together. They also have their own bagels that they make fresh every day, I will absolutely be back for those. Cheese curds were spongy and I like how they give a hot sauce and buttermilk ranch in true midwestern fashion. I obviously got the burger, it has sharp American cheese, diced onions, roasted garlic aioli, and house dill pickles. This really reminded of an Au Cheval burger without bacon, and I really liked it. I also am more impressed with this burger because I typically don’t like lettuce on a burger, but they did it right. Hats off to Half Sour for the good food.

I’m been coming to Half Sour for 2.5 years now. The food has never disappointed. They have NEW specials that rotate every 2-3 weeks (sometimes each week) and it’s always nice coming and trying something new because their cooks are great. The people are great, including one of the owners… Jessie. Gracie is always nice and candid, love it! They have random comedy shows and different activities going on and the ambience is always nice – music is cultured – they switch between genres and vibes. Genuinely a great place to live close to! And no wait time usually – you just seat yourself wherever. Fun fact I had my first date ever with my boyfriend here and we still come years later. Try it out.
Update: 10 minutes after making this post (while at Half Sour), Jessie sent me home with a sweet treat.

Cocktails were really good and the food was fantastic.
Sat at the bar and the bartenders were friendly while providing fast and excellent service.

I recently had breakfast at Half Sour, and it was a delightful experience. The food was absolutely delicious, with a menu that offers a variety of tasty options to satisfy any breakfast craving. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, making it a perfect spot for a morning meal.
However, I do wish they had an espresso machine. While the brewed coffee was good, having the option for espresso-based drinks would enhance the experience even more. Despite this minor drawback, Half Sour is definitely worth a visit for a delicious breakfast.

I’ll admit we didn’t eat here but people who got food, looked like big portions. Really good vibe. Good drinks. Bartenders were ultra friendly. A bunch of tvs behind the bar so could watch some college football. A place if we weren’t going to dinner somewhere else, we would have hung around for a while.
Update: we went back the next day for food. Got some burgers on their specials menu that were really good plus charred buffalo wings. Guy next to me guy a gyro special that looked solid. One of my favorite spots on the trip.

I stay close by so I ordered a chicken caesar, which took 20 minutes. Not sure why it was terrible and dry. I paid $26 for slop! Service was not so great. Just wanted to try it out because its nearby, I’ll never ever return!

The vibes here are pretty nice! They have outdoor sitting when the weather is good, and the inside is pretty nice and chill.
I really love how they make their drinks, particularly their whiskey sour! They also have a cold brew, which is really surprising – I don’t usually go to many bars that offer cold brews just straight up- But this bar does! And I’m quite happy with it!
I particularly love their mac & cheese! They add extra cheese on top with scallions – so good! Any chance I get, I go and I have it – 10/10!
