Bertrand Pittsburgh – A Taste of Authentic French Cuisine
Reviews
We began with the pâté, which was rich, smooth, and absolutely delicious, served alongside perfectly toasted slices of garlic-infused baguette. I also ordered the French onion soup, which was incredible—perfect on a cold night and tasted completely homemade. It was easily one of the best French onion soups we’ve ever had, with a deep, flavorful broth and just the right amount of melted cheese.
For our mains, my husband opted for the Australian Lamb Rack, while I chose the Halibut. Both dishes were cooked to perfection, expertly seasoned, and served on a bed of fresh arugula with a flavorful dressing. We also ordered the purée de pomme de terre, which paired beautifully with our meals. The freshness of the ingredients was evident, and the owner even mentioned that they don’t use any freezers in their kitchen!
For dessert, we enjoyed the Pot de Crème, topped with whipped cream and a mixed berry sauce. It was luxuriously smooth, creamy, and had the perfect balance of chocolate flavor—I could have easily gone for another serving!
The entire evening was delightful. The owner was warm and genuine, stopping by to share a bit about himself and check on us throughout the night. Our waitress was fantastic—friendly, attentive, and made us feel so welcome. The dining room itself was beautiful and cozy, adding to the charm. Since it’s BYOB, we brought a bottle of French wine to share, which made the night even more special.
I can’t wait to return to The Bertrand in the summertime to enjoy the patio and try more of their menu. We had an amazing evening and left completely satisfied. This is a place we’ll definitely be revisiting! 100% recommend for you too!
If you are looking for a cozy and delicious French meal, Bertrand is perfect for you! Sit inside and feel the opulence of Paris, or sit outside and dine in a French garden.
The food was outstanding (no microwaves or freezers here!).
We started with escargot and vichyssoise. The escargot was buttery with garlic and tender. The vichyssoise was chilled leeks and potatoes -a perfect start on a warm fall day.
Our entree’s were Boeuf Bourguignon and Filet mignon with mushrooms. Both had rich flavor with tender meat. Portions were generous and filling.
Ended with the chocolate Pots de crème-wow, delicious.
Restaurant is BYOB, so bring your favorite bottle of French wine to complement the meal.
Lou, the owner, greated us and checked in throughout our meal. He was kind enough to share some history of the restaurant, so be sure to ask.
We are looking forward to returning soon to try many of the other dishes!
The experience was easily top 5 of all time. The food was impressive, the setting was incredible, and the service was impeccable.
It’s the most adorable little gem of a French eatery. It’s upscale without being intimidating. It’s decorated beautifully while still being modest. And it’s intimate.
I ordered the Steak au Poivre and asked that it be cooked blue rare which they accommodated with to perfection.
For dessert was a shot of Espresso and a French style cheesecake which is just as flavorful as a traditional cheesecake, but not nearly as dense. It’s served over a berry compote that will bring a tear to your eye.
The best part of this experience, though, what getting the opportunity to speak to the owner, Lou, about his life.
He’s a fascinating person who really seems to enjoy what he does and is excited to welcome people into his space as though it were his living room. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
10/10 would recommend.
Consistency in flavor and service are gustatory properties of this FOODIE’S GEM OF AUTHENTIC FRENCH, which is extremely a rarity in this town.
The proprietor Chef Bucci is certified member the Confrérie de la Chaine des Rôtisseurs , a commendation to his culinary expertise.
Tucked away from the bustle of central Pittsburgh, this very unassuming FRENCH FINE DINING is truly outstanding . It does exude a nostalgic Parisienne feeling with its interior decor.
— We are pleased to recognize one of the artistic photos depicts a location a prior gustatory delight still in business today.
The menu is short sweet and is tried and tested. The prices are very reasonably affordable. The rather generous servings give a homey enjoyment of very Fine French fares.
The BYOW concept is a terrific idea. One can bring a very fine claret of one’s choosing without breaking one’s wallet…. We brought a Corbières Boutenac.
We had a grand dinner with starters of Pate de Foie and Saumon then sumptuous fares of Longe d’ Agneau and Steak Frites.
+++++
A FOODIE’S GEM: DELIGHTFUL AUTHENTIC FRENCH RESTAURANT . It’s a lovely restaurant with an ambience of a 50’s restaurant set in the Riviera, the piped in Chansons enhances the feel.
The menu is short and sweet, the listing looks country French . It brings back fond memories of restaurants in Provence and Laguendoc.
The Escargot baked in the shell is superb. Contrast that with the chilled Saumon stack with crème fraise. They’re a savory combination that’s truly refined French.
Filet mignon aux champignon is superb. Perfect med-rare, with silken demi glaze and mushrooms on flavorful potato purée! .
It truly is a terrific French dining. It’s BYOB, and the whole dinner went so well with a Chateau Armagnac, a lucky pick from my collection .
Service is excellent and a rather engaging chat with the proprietor Messr Bucci made the evening. Another visit is forthcoming
Can’t wait to come back.
We ordered some pate which was delicious and served with garlic bread crostini. The escargot were tasty. For the meal, I had the rack of lamb with sweet potato mash which was cooked perfectly and a joy to eat. The lamb t-bones, the beef bourguignon, and the steak frites were also delicious.
If you haven’t been, I HIGHLY recommend.
