We visited Portland last week and stopped here to eat our new year black-eyed peas and let me tell you, this place is fantastic. This restaurant is family-owned and run by the sweetest woman. From the moment we walked in, we were treated like just like family, which was so refreshing.

The food was incredible, let me tell you that lady put her foot up in that food, it was made with nothing but love and soul. I had the catfish platter with collard green soup and mac and cheese, and my boyfriend had the jambalaya pasta. They even packed our meals in to-go plates so we could take our leftovers with us, which was such a thoughtful touch.

Portland isn’t really known for soul food, but hands down, this is the best place to find it out here. The vibe of the restaurant was comfortable and authentically “old school”. Right down to the Anita Baker playing in the background and the full on hot sauce selection. It truly felt like I was eating at my auntie’s house.

I could not recommend this place more. YOU NEED TO COME HERE!!!! 10/10

10/10 first time experience. Reasonably priced (although i wish the boudin links came in sets of two). My fiance is from texas and it made his southern soul very happy! (boudin balls just weren’t battered in the way of our personal preference)The atmosphere is great, makes you feel like you’re at your aunties or cousins for dinner. Theres the sweetest lady that works the front. Wish i could’ve took a picture of the crawfish Alfredo bread but we devoured it before I got the chance!

Stopped in on a Thursday around 5pm… It was quiet, and we received excellent service. All the food was fresh and delicious, I was even able to get a green tea so all my needs were met!

Will be returning for sure… I recommend everyone stop and give it a try!

This is from a DoorDash order btw

The Macaroni and cheese tasted like Velveta cheese!! It’s not good. The Collard Greens seem to come from a can. The rice in the Seafood Gumbo was def minute rice. The gumbo has a heavy seafood smell which…..give or take depending on your preference and it was a bit thin. Would I order again? Absolutely not. Yall trying to take advantage of people in Portland with this mockery of food.

Take my money. As a first time visitor of Portland I was craving some creole inspired food with the gloomy weather and Andrea and DeeDee sure didn’t miss. Initially ordered through Uber Eats but was met with a warm smile and “the food is being made with love “ invitation, I actually dined in and the ladies kept me company with great conversation and the Chicken and Waffles were a hit. And they even had sugar free syrup although you want need it for these waffles. Great location and can’t wait to go back

La Bontemps – A True Portland Gem

I had an incredible experience at La Bontemps in Portland, Oregon. The food was absolutely exquisite, and the family‑style atmosphere made the whole place feel warm, welcoming, and genuine. The red snapper was so flavorful that I didn’t dip it in the tartar sauce a single time — and that says a lot. Every dish had real depth and seasoning, from start to finish.

This spot is honestly one of Portland’s best‑kept secrets. The quality of the food doesn’t match the price in the best way possible — you get way more than you pay for. La Bontemps is a win‑win all the way around, and I’m already looking forward to going back.

My friend and I have been meaning to go here for awhile and finally went today. AMAZING food! We each had different things and shared. I had the taste of Louisiana and he had snapper. Everything was delicious!! We will be back!! Yummy homemade daiquiris too.

Black owned. LGBTQ+ friendly. And omg the best Cajun food I’ve had outside of Louisiana! I had the oyster po’boy. The bread was homemade; crispy outside and pillowy soft inside. The oysters were prepared perfectly. The banana pudding was to die for. Everything my friends had was great too. Collard greens, beans and rice, crawfish etouffee, and smothered potato! For dessert we shared, warm peach cobbler with real Bluebird ice cream the owner has shipped in special. It tastes just like homemade. I can’t wait to try everything else! Will go back again and again!
