I recently visited the New Carrollton Café inside the New Carrollton Amtrak station, and I had a good experience. Granted the ongoing construction in and around station make it a little interesting to navigate but the café is open every day from 5:30 AM to 8 PM, making it the perfect stop for early mornings or late afternoons. The staff, especially the ladies working there, are incredibly friendly and welcoming. The prices are reasonable, and the café offers a great selection of food and drinks—pretty much anything you’d expect from a café, including popcorn! It’s a perfect little spot to grab a bite or drink while traveling through the station.

Disappointing Experience at New Carrollton Cafe
I have been a loyal customer of the New Carrollton Cafe for over two decades, but my recent visit left me deeply disappointed. Today, I decided to introduce my son to the Jamaican patties that I have cherished for years. Unfortunately, my experience was marred by an encounter with the cashier.
Upon noticing the cashier playing with her hair, I politely requested that she wash her hands before handling the food to avoid cross-contamination. Instead of acknowledging the concern and adhering to basic hygiene, she responded with a dismissive remark, suggesting I should eat at home.
As someone who values cleanliness and believes it’s crucial in food establishments, this encounter was disheartening. It left me questioning the cafe’s commitment to maintaining a clean and hygienic environment. I never expected such a response, especially after being a loyal patron for so many years.
I believe it’s essential for the management to address such issues promptly. If the cashier in question is not the owner, I strongly urge the management to consider appropriate actions, including retraining staff on hygiene practices. This experience has left me contemplating whether I should continue supporting a cafe that seemingly neglects such fundamental aspects of customer service.
I hope my feedback can contribute to improvements in the overall customer experience at the New Carrollton Cafe.

Asked for a small Americano ($3.11) and they just poured me a cup of coffee. They assumed I didn’t know the process of making an Americano, and that wasn’t. They also assumed that when one employee said to the other, just give her a regular coffee that I wouldn’t understand because it was said in their language. Then they assumed when they charged me a total of $3.45 off of a $3.11 cup of coffee that I wouldn’t know that was almost 11% sales tax. Lastly, they assumed I don’t do reviews.

The ladies that operate the establishment are very rude. Especially the one who wears glasses. There is no hospitality but plenty of attitude. I got a sandwich didn’t like the way it taste no refund. For the difference.

Spicy beef patties are amazing. Service was always great (used to be usual customer maybe a year or two ago)

I ordered two cheese danishes, which were both crammed into a small bag. After eating them, I wanted to wash my hands, but, the bathroom had no running water. I asked the cashier for napkins and a cup of water so I could rinse my hands outside. She told me that she couldn’t give me water? After paying for a meal. The hospitality just wasn’t there. The danishes were delicious though.

I have no complaints about the food. Busy cafe in the middle of a busy metro station. Located inside the Amtrak waiting area. Service is three stars for my experience. One lady frowns and never greets me. A young lady always looks flustered. The employees give a more welcoming greeting to persons who speak their language.

The food here never disappoints. It’s always fresh and healthy. You can get yogurt, a salad, a fresh fruit salad, sandwiches, burgers and a good selection of juices, hot drinks and sodas. I especially love their Jamaican beef patties – they have chicken and veggie patties too. It’s a great place to wait for your next train/bus. I think (and I could be wrong) it is one of the only train stations that has a cafe like this within the station itself. Note, the one drawback is that there is no cafe area to sit. You either sit inside the Amtrak station area or as you go.

So I’m waiting for the train home here at the new Carrollton Amtrak and MARK station I realized I didn’t have a spoon to feed my niece. She’s two, by the way. So I go up to the new Carrollton Café and ask the lady behind the counter if she has a spoon, she looks at me, points and says only if you purchase something…
For that reason you get 1 star on an overpriced dilapidated store.

If I can rate no stars I would . This is not my 1st encounter with uncalled for and unnecessary rudeness while buying at the cafe. I stop here every morning to grab coffee and whatever else I may need and I’m never rude to anyone so when the lady threw my receipt in the bag with an attitude because I told her she can just put it in since my hand was already full it threw me for a loop and I said I’d never go back there but a few weeks later I said I’ll give them a try again . This was a few months ago . Well that lady just left to have her baby and there’s this new lady with curly hair and glasses and I’ve watched her be rude to some many people for no reason and today I got a taste of it because I tried to order a croissant sandwich along with my order but I didn’t know what they normally put in it . She was so rude I just told her nevermind . I should have walked out left my order and not pay but I really needed that coffee after working overnight. Then she proceeds to talk about me with the lady behind me as if I don’t understand them. At this point I think I’ll just take my money else where since they act like I’m begging them for the food I’m paying for .
