Absolutely unforgettable experience. So simple but so cozy, feeling and tasting so good. Alain, the chef, wins your heart in minutes and you cannot resist from chatting with him and watching every move he makes. Real must for those in the region. A plus: super friendly to kids and our dog

The gem of Auxonne. This is truly a one in a lifetime find! If you want dinner in Auxonne, this is the only place you should go! The chef and his lovely family make you feel right at home, while he cooks a masterpiece of a meal right in front of you. From the local wine, to the cheese and charcuterie platter with burgundy’s favourites to the main event – delicious home made favourites like bouillabaisse, lamb shank and beef bourguignon – we left with full tummies, big smiles and maybe too many sips of wine! Don’t forget to try the citron mousse (it is lemon heaven)
This restaurant is more like having dinner at a French neighbour, whose love for food makes every minute more special!
Plus he speaks brilliant English! Call to book!

Exquisite food, all prepared in front of our very eyes by very confident chef and proprietor, Alain. Delicious main course of chicken in a scallop and langoustine cream sauce and probably the best creme brulee I have tasted, ever! The only reason for a 4 star rating on atmosphere was
because we visited on a very cold Tuesday evening in January, so not many people about. However, Alain and his neice were charming hosts and gave us a very warm welcome and Alain kept us very entertained. We plan to visit Auxonne again this coming summer, so we will definitely be back!

Alain single handedly cooks and serves the best food on the Saone, with large pours of good wine and hospitality. Burgundian classics made with the love of a home cook but the skill of a Michelin star chef.

This is a very nice small bistro run by a retired chef. It feels like you are dining in his home, which you are. Everything was excellent.

We’ve just had a superb meal at Bistro 44. The food is all cooked in front of you, top quality ingredients and Monsieur le chef likes to practise his English. Today’s special; salmon with scallops and prawns and a lobster sauce was superb, as was the pork medallions. The creme brûlée is the talk of the port and all for a reasonable price 🙂
Highly recommended if you’re in Auxonne… don’t miss this treat.

Unreasonably good stuff. Pretty much everything was great, from the service to the atmosphere to the unbelievable food. Highly recommend the bouillabaisse.
