An Unforgettable Culinary Experience by the Chao Phraya River
Thiptara Thai Restaurant at The Peninsula Bangkok is far more than just a restaurant—it is a place where authentic Thai cuisine, atmosphere, and world-class service come together in perfect harmony.
The riverside location is simply stunning and creates a calm, elegant, yet deeply authentic ambiance. Especially in the evening, the restaurant reveals its unique charm. Traditional architecture, soft lighting, and views over the Chao Phraya River turn every visit into a truly memorable experience.
The cuisine is exceptional: refined, authentic Thai flavors, perfectly balanced, beautifully presented, and of the highest quality. Each dish reflects great care and a deep respect for Thailand’s culinary heritage.
The service deserves special recognition. Biw and her team deliver an outstanding level of hospitality, combining warmth, attentiveness, and true professionalism. Their elegance, kindness, and attention to detail are genuinely world-class, making every guest feel not only well cared for, but truly welcome.
Thiptara is a place for special moments—romantic, sophisticated, and deeply rooted in Thai culture. It is without a doubt one of the finest Thai restaurants I have ever visited and a highlight of my stay at The Peninsula Bangkok.
Highly recommended.
We had the Thai tasting menu, we were really excited to have a taste experience! It’s around £50 a head. Amuse bouche was some popodoms and dips (hardly a sophisticated offering), followed by what sounded amazing on the description but was like sawdust wrapped in leaves. Then the aubergine pork dish, which was overpowerly tasting of lime and not much else. Very little pork in there in relation to the vegetables, then the soup, sour, limey and a couple of tiny pieces of fish, not much bigger than a sugar cube that were dry as cardboard. Again all you got was lime. Then a lamb curry, which was a case of find the lamb, a couple of small pieces in a sea of pretty ordinary curry sauce. Then the coconut ice cream and sticky rice which was fine but nothing special.
The bill with one bottle of wine (one of their most inexpensive) and water came to £200 for 2. I don’t mind paying that for a good meal, but it was far from that. I also don’t like giving a negative review. But this is a big hotel and projects a fine dining image, and it should be called out. It’s a warning to other potential diners. And a chance for the kitchen to look at what they’re serving! It was by far the worst meal in our two weeks in Thailand.
Highly recommend
This outdoor restaurant is part of The Peninsula Bangkok, situated right by the river, with background music featuring guzheng performances, creating a calm and pleasant atmosphere. The service is attentive as well.
Both the Mandarin Oriental and Shangri-La, located across the river, also have similar riverside restaurants.
Thiptara is what I would define the epitome of the Authentic Thai cuisine.
The atmosphere was wonderful and relaxing, the staff welcoming and friendly, in particular Biw who we had the pleasure to be served by today.
I have gluten and lactose intolerance, Biw made sure the food was right for me and equally delicious.
The selection of dishes we order was on point, starting with the mango salad, spicy as we like, my very first crab curry (which I’ll definitely won’t forget) , the beef and the dessert, Red Ruby Water Chestnut Dumpling with Young Coconut Sauce, recommended to us by Biw which was refreshing and delicious.
We also had the immense pleasure to meet the chef and personally thank for the opportunity to try her delicious food!
We will definitely be back.
