1st day opening today 3/7/26.
Our first visit here. One waffle cone with two scoops of butter pecan and one regular cone with vanilla. This is Sweet Summits brand ice cream. Not all posted flavors were available. The exterior was a little junked up but the ordering window area was clean and the staff attentive.
The waffle cone was fresh and crunchy but the butter pecan ice cream had more of a pancake syrup taste with very few pecans. The vanilla ice cream was very sweet but lacked much vanilla flavor. $10.19 for two cones. Very Expensive. Hard pass.
*Note this review was completed without using ridiculous un-discriptive terms like out-of-bounds, OMG, on point, awesome, the bomb, yummy, delish, to die for, do yourself a favor, trust me, flavorful, or kids emojis etc.. Describe the food, service (or lack of) and provide details on the cost/copy of check and include pictures! Is the place clean? No disrespect to the employees, but no one cares about the waiter/waitress/clerk names, or if they look like they fell face first into a tackle box. They get changed like underwear and you don’t get to pick one. We don’t care about your allergies, vibes, how “chill” you feel, or the need for gluten free food.

Happy to see the ICE CREAM HUT back in business OPEN for another season in this small seasonal town where it can be difficult to afford to keep the doors open…. Yet, the owner finds a way to make it work and the locals who understand do our best to support these small local businesses who clearly want to help support our community! So nice to see them thrive!
The weather will break soon and they will be packed busy, I love when they break out the games and occasionally do movie nights too. They make sure to have golf cart parking as we locals know parking is a big concern in this town unfortunately so the hut makes sure to allow golf cart parking easily accessible and FREE which is a big plus.
I will like to mention the very odd review below mine on OPENING DAY (3/7/26 review) that review is very strange Im sure most can see for themselves….. what kind of person takes pictures of young female smiling staff members and posts them ONLINE then complains about the most strange things?!? How odd…. Must be bored?! Then knit picks on very irrelevant things while telling people how to report other reviews too. What a strange way of thinking…. Almost laughable but so weird. I’ve been coming to this Ice Cream Hut since it’s opened a few years ago and my thoughts are we don’t have much in town here for all ages to come to, to relax, get a treat and enjoy the weather, lunch and environment, all for FREE PARKING (again an issue in this area) and they have all types of options and regularly add more to try to meet all people’s needs (hand dipped, soft serve, milkshakes, food, drinks etc) and the owners are ALWAYS SO FRIENDLY~ this is most important and there are other similar places who offer less AND are simply NOT PLEASANT PEOPLE….
So pros and cons?!?! I don’t see any cons here other than the fact they close down for the winter when I wish there was a way to offer seasonal winter style treats to stay open year round! (Think hot cocoa, fancy coffees, s’mores, espressos, eggnog drinks, other winter style foodies! Etc)
I’d definitely support it! But I do understand and am grateful to even have a business like this that is still here and thriving! Go see and enjoy for yourself!

Our 1st visit to Colonial Beach VA. Drove by The Island Hut & kids wanted to def stop by On our way out of town. Fun vibes, misting spray, outdoor games like a big connect 4 & cornhole. they have more than just ice cream like shaved ice and I know there’s other things on their menu but I forgot to take a picture!
We had a good time. i’m glad I did not order anything because my daughter’s had a lot of ice cream, shareable! She tried double fudge brownie: says it was tasty but not a lot of brownie bits.
Hubby & son tried chocolate chip and cookies n cream. Single scoop came in a waffle cone and was ginormous! Service was quick and pretty friendly and ice cream was tasty but not the best weed ever have but it’s a fun place to visit so that’s why the 4.5 stars.

Friendly staff and tasty ice cream. Tried the espresso, strawberry cheesecake, strawberry shortcake and churro ice creams today and they were all so yummy — along with their homemade waffle cones!! Will definitely be back.

They reduced the portion sizes by more than half, which is a huge bummer because my favorite part about this place used to be that they actually give you a decent amount of ice cream for the price. Very disappointed when I was handed my cone today, which had a small, sad, single scoop. Not worth the price anymore and we won’t be returning

Strawberry ice cream was good. Sand and connect 4 was a hit with toddler (there’s also corn hole). Reasons for low review – ordered a kids ice cream which was like $4.50 and then I was charged around $5.50. Caught my attention, asked about it and told they charge $1 for a credit card, but girl did not mention it and no way to cancel transaction (could have easily paid cash). This kids ice cream was like a baby scoop – why, for that price? Fortunately girl gave more ice cream when I complained, but I was already annoyed by this point. The environment (other than how loud the music was) was great and enjoyed by our child and the other kids she met there. Also, may want to consider reprinting umbrella that reads ‘credit cards excepted’ instead of accepted.
