I visit Tim’s Cafe and Market Ethiopia Cafe once or twice a week because it is close to my house, usually just to pick up a few items. Unfortunately, my experience with one of the waiters has been consistently negative.
When customers sit down to eat, he is polite because he expects tips. But when I only buy items to go, his attitude changes. He acts rude, breathes heavily as if he is annoyed, and behaves like he is doing me a favor. When I ask simple questionssuch as for a bag or how to pay he responds with frustration and impatience.
This has happened many times, not just once or twice. I was there again yesterday and experienced the same behavior. I mentioned this during a family gathering, and several family members said they know exactly who I’m talking about and have stopped going to the store because of him.
It’s disappointing, because the location is convenient, but customer service should be respectful to everyone whether they dine in or just make a quick purchase.

I ordered Derek Tibs to go and it cost me about $18. This is by far the worst Derek Tibs in Virginia. The onions and peppers were completely burnt as you can see and it was hard to eat. I would have returned it had I known but I opened the box after 40 minutes driving home unfortunately. The server also told me they didn’t have some of the other Tibs I wanted on the menu like the Chikina.

My “go-to” place for Ethiopian coffee and fresh/warm Injera for my son. The staff are very nice and welcoming. The lentil sambusas are delicious

A nice small Ethiopian restaurant to try authentic Ethiopian dishes. It is also a market for you to take some Ethiopian food and spices. I suggest the ‘Quanta Firfir’. It tests amazing. Definitely would recommend.

I went to Time Café and asked the waitress for a Perrier to drink, but they told me to get it from the refrigerator myself. Both the man and the female waitress were talking and ignoring customers. It felt like they refused to serve me because they assumed I wouldn’t leave a tip. The staff were not welcoming at all. I’m not sure if the female owner is aware, but the service has gotten really bad lately.

Best Ethiopian food I’ve had in DC. Perfect shiro, injera, and kik alicha. The prices are bit lower than some other Ethiopian spots, and this was the best meal I’ve had in a long time, thank you!

The food is great, but the service is terrible.
The tables are filthy, and the bathroom smell strongly of urine. Customers can barely hear themselves speak because the owner is sitting with his buddies watching soccer and listening to music at full volume. Unless you’re one of the men watching soccer with the owner, you’re treated like an uninvited guest. I hope their service improves because the wife is an excellent chef.
