Total 5-star experience. I tried THE BLUNT and was blown away by the flavor combinations. The ingredients are clearly high-grade—the tuna was buttery and the veggies had that perfect crunch.
What really sets them apart is their unique specialty cocktails; they are absolute game-changers. It’s rare to find a roll up spot that treats their bar program with as much craft as their kitchen. The drinks are balanced perfectly—adding a refreshing kick that enhances the fresh fish rather than overpowering it. Whether you’re looking for something citrusy to cut through the richness of the spicy tuna or a bold infusion to pair with the crunch, their mixology takes the whole meal to a level you just don’t find at a typical lunch spot.

We were visiting Chicago a few weeks back and Roll Up was on our list of new places to try, and it just happened to be a few blocks from our hotel!

Everyone there was so friendly and genuine (especially our server Papitchaya), and the food and atmosphere were equally wonderful! The furikake fries were perfectly cooked and beautifully seasoned; the rolls were perfection; and we couldn’t resist trying the lychee ice cream, even though we usually don’t order dessert with lunch.

The kicker, though? That fresh wasabi! it’s tart and spicy and tangy, and has an amazing texture, almost like a chutney. It’s hard to describe, but I’ll never be happy with wasabi paste again.

This restaurant is a wonderful gem -we can’t wait to return the next time we’re in town!

First time dining here and I was very pleased. Food is exceptionally tasty; the crispy rice may have been one of the best I’ve ever had, and I’ve eaten at an array of sushi spots. Ambiance is cozy and chic. Only reason I dropped a star is the price to serving size ratio is a little off. Portion sizes are on the smaller end and I was still very hungry after finishing dinner here. Otherwise great neighborhood spot.

Great food and service! Tried a bit of a few things and enjoyed all of it. The fries were great! The rolls tasted fresh and were made to order in front of us. Even the wasabi was amazing! Great spot for snacks or a light meal.

The spot is tucked away a bit so it’s easy to miss.

This new spot has so many things going for it. Since it’s a 16-seat countertop, it feels more of an intimate experience, and you can watch the person make the hand rolls in front of you! Our favs included the unagi hand rolls, scallop hand roll, cucumber salad, furikake fries and the blue tea. The fish was so fresh, and it melts in your mouth! The blue tea is unlike a tea I’ve encountered before—it tastes like sweet and creamy, but it doesn’t have any milk it. Coming back to try the toro and wagyu hand roll next time!

One of my friends recommended this restaurant when I was looking for a place to host my birthday party. The owner was super responsive. I reached out to her a couple of weeks in advance, and she worked with us to hammer out logistics with the birthday decorations and cake prep. She also helped us order some off-menu items we wanted for the party.

During the party, we also ordered items from their menu. We were not only impressed with the overall fish quality, but also the small details they put into things. They provide real wasabi, and serve really aromatic tea from Paris that I’ve not seen at other restaurants. The 9 of us really enjoyed the experience – we’ve been to omakases in LA, NYC, and Japan, and their uni and otoro is up there with the greats.

It’s so refreshing to find a non-omakase restaurant that puts a high focus on the quality of their ingredients without breaking the bank for us customers. It’s also very cool that they do private events! My friends and I had a great time celebrating my birthday, and we will definitely be back!

Roll Up is AWESOME. The hand rolls were very flavorful and super fresh. Chef Cesar helped us figure out what we want and made amazing handroll — every roll was better than the first

Also the bartender Summer made great drinks and helped us select the right Sake based on our preferences. She was super friendly!

If you want tasty sushi rolls, good vibes, and cool people, go to Roll Up. I’m definitely coming back!

Wow the quality of food here is top notch! From the fresh real wasabi (not the bright green fake wasabi from a tube) to the taste and presentation of their crispy rice tartar and matcha tiramasu, you can tell the owner put lots of effort on making sure all the ingredients are fresh and good quality. The service was also great! We had too many glasses of the pineapple express (refillable!). We will definitely come back again.

We had such a good dinner here! The vibes are great with bar seating. Service was very friendly and really fast as well – our whole dinner was served and finished in about 30 minutes. We loved the unagi and blue fin hand rolls. The matcha tiramisu dessert was also amazing. Will definitely be back!

Came here with a friend. I made a reservation online but they had plenty of open spots (probably because they’re new). Interior was clean and bright. This is a bar style restaurant. Wouldn’t come here with a group of people. They have one long bar and a few servers that will give you your hand rolls one at a time. I got the miso soup and it was not the best- would skip next time. Yellowtail crudo was really good and so were the hand rolls. They held up while eating and were to the point. Matcha tiramisu was amazing and service was fast. Will be back again to try other things on the menu
