Phenomenal baked goods! Highly recommend, everything we purchased was fresh, homemade, and truly ambrosial.
Super unique and an extensive selection, see photos. Everything is fresh and absolutely delicious. Will continue to stop by anytime we are in the area, this place is a hidden gem! We were at a lacrosse play day and stopped by at a time between

My only complaint was that I could not order everything in the bakery!!! I will definitely be going back to this place. FYI— this is cash/check only. There is a clear sign marked visible about that when you walk in, just make sure to be prepared.

I have been going to this bakery since I was a little kid. As soon as you walk in, the fresh aroma of cinnamon, chocolate, vanilla, maple, and more, permeates the air. You know you are in for an amazing treat. I still go to this bakery often for the best baked goods in the county.

I love to get desserts (their chocolate cupcakes are beyond incredible, their cakes divine), rolls for dinner (their burger and hot dog rolls are the best, as are their buttercrust rolls), breakfast goodies (their cinnamon melt-aways are one of the greatest things you will ever taste, and you can get 3 or 4 of them for the price of a Cinnabon roll, way better deal and quality, they have like a dozen different flavor Danishes, and their maple frosted cinnamon rolls are another one of my favorites).

Or you can get amazing fresh pies for only 10 bucks and they are way better than anywhere else. They have $10 cakes as well that are twice the size of a similarly priced cake at a supermarket and much better quality. They also have several different types of bread, including a cinnamon bread that is unbeatable, real, fresh white and French bread, and more. No other bakery has the variety that this place has.

If you get there super early they might not have everything on the shelves yet but just ask if what you want is available, it usually is or you can place an order to pick up. Also if you get there later in the day the shelves may be rather empty as well as they only make a finite amount of stuff and sell most of it every day. On Christmas Eve morning there was a line around the building at 7am, half an hour before they even opened, and it was cold and pouring down rain. People only wait in line outside like that for the absolute best. They are as of this writing closed for almost 2 months for winter vacation, but I have their reopen date in my phone calendar.

You might wait up to 10 minutes or so in line, a small wait and it is worth it. You can get breakfast/desserts for up to four people for around 10 dollars total or $2.50 per person, a real bargain! There is plenty of parking at the building, and additional parking at the plaza just south of the bakery, and a small staircase leading down to from that lot to the bakery. If you want something specific get there early or order ahead of time for pickup. This place has a high demand for their products and can sell most of their available stock every day.

Probably the only downside for anyone is that they only take cash or checks, no cards, (there is a sign as you walk in the door) but there is a free ATM at the CVS next door, and another ATM at the Country Fair down the street, plus two different banks across the street with 24 hour ATMs, so getting some quick cash is not really a big issue.

The staff are all friendly and helpful, and very busy! It is a family operated business that has been around for a very long time and has an established reputation for superiority. All prices include tax.

One of my brothers lives down in the Amish country part of Pennsylvania, and when visiting him I have went to several Dutch/Amish bakeries there, and while they were amazing in their way, Sontheimer’s still puts them to shame. This bakery is burdened with glorious purpose.

I will see if I can add some pictures once they are open again.

Best Bakery I’ve been to maybe ever!! From the friendly family service to the historical antique decor to the best homemade baked goods in Erie.
My favorites, besides Everything, is the Orange crescent moon cakes, Seasonal German donuts, and so soft and scrumptiously delightful croissants… can’t go wrong with ANY choice you make. Cash and checks only but the prices are unbelievably reasonable, 6/5.

Sadly where I live there are NO decent bakeries left, so I’ve accepted that I will have to drive at least an hour to get good dessert. Let me tell you, this place is worth the drive!! I’ve been here only once but I am planning to come back soon, everything I tried was great, but the orange crescents and the sweet maple rolls are I might have to just get a dozen of those when I visit next because they are irresistable. Clark’s Donuts are the best ones available in my area and they’re decent but they have NOTHING on the sweets from Sontheimer’s!!!

The family that owns this bakery are sooo friendly and I was shocked at how low the prices are for the amazing quality you get. Can’t wait to visit again and fill my car up with delicous desserts and bread.

PSA: They only accept cash here, make sure you bring your friends Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson and Jackson with you. In my case I probably need to bring Benjamin too, because I just want to bring the whole menu home with me.

This is a bakery, not a restaurant. You buy bakery items and take them out. There is no food served and there is no seating. Their bakery items are well made, fresh and delicious. Their pies are great and only $10. The one quirk is that they do not accept credit cards. It is cash only.

Have loved this old-fashioned bakery since the 1960s. My favorites are the cinnamon raisin rolls, but it’s all good. It’s always a stop if I’m in Erie — take extra home, wrap it well, and keep in freezer. ❤️

My coworkers and I were given a variety of the bakery goods as a thank you. It was my first time having the tasty treats. I’m very impressed at the quality of the items. I can’t wait to visit the bakery for more!
