Anko Sushi lived up to the hype. The nigiri omakase punched above its weight for the $60 price tag. The seaweed salad was delicious and different than others I’ve had which all taste similar. The service was friendly and included a free dessert. We loved the bar at the streatery and think it offers a great value!

Hands down the best omakase in the city. The quality and the freshness of the fish is excellent.
The food hall is very non-traditional, so bear that in mind before deciding to leave a negative review!
Did it take a while to receive my food? Yes. But that is to be expected when you are getting a beautifully handcrafted meal.
The presentation was beautiful and each piece has individual and unique flavor. This was my first time visiting, and as a lover of fresh fish- Anko Sushi takes the lead when it comes to sushi in Louisville.

This was my first omakase experience. It was really fun! I wasn’t a fan of the first piece I had, but the rest were good and very fresh. I really enjoyed the experience! I also tried their Virginia shy roll & loved it

Best omakase I’ve ever had! The fish is so fresh and I loved the wagyu addition to the omakase! Also had the eel roll and caterpillar roll. 10/10!

5 Stars – The Best Sushi and Custom Omakase in Kentucky

If you’re looking for the best sushi in Kentucky, Anko Sushi is an absolute standout. It delivers a level of quality, precision, and creativity you would expect from elite omakase restaurants in New York, Chicago, or Los Angeles.

The fresh fish flown in from Tokyo is expertly cut, and paired with perfectly seasoned rice that holds just the right texture. Every piece reflects true Japanese craftsmanship and attention to detail.

What truly sets Anko apart is the customized omakase experience. Rather than the traditional one-piece-at-a-time format, the chef presents thoughtfully composed boards featuring multiple pieces, arranged to tell a flavorful and visual story. I asked for a full bluefin tuna experience, and it was unlike anything I’ve had in Kentucky or the Midwest. From O-Toro and Chu-Toro to rare and exquisite cuts like Toro Cheek, Toro Collar, and Spinal Jelly, I was guided through the entire fish in a way that showcased both the versatility of the tuna and the chef’s mastery.

The offerings don’t stop at tuna. Premium ingredients like buttery A5 Wagyu, creamy uni, and fresh grated wasabi elevate the experience even further, each presented with subtlety and restraint that lets the ingredients speak for themselves.

Beyond the sushi, the izakaya-style small plates are just as impressive. The hand rolls (temaki) delivered bold umami flavors with balance and refinement, the scallion pancake was crispy yet tender, the onigiri was simple and comforting, and the miso-marinated hamachi collar was rich and silky, packed with flavor that lingered without overpowering. Even house-made tamagoyaki was handled with precision and purpose, a true mark of craftsmanship.

Anko Sushi isn’t just the best sushi in Kentucky, it’s one of the top omakase experiences in the entire Midwest. If this restaurant were in Manhattan or Los Angeles, it would stand proudly alongside the city’s best. Whether you’re local to Louisville or Lexington, or traveling from Nashville, Cincinnati, or Indianapolis, this is a destination-worthy experience for anyone who respects fine Japanese cuisine.

Beautifully crafted sushi with standout presentation and top-notch freshness. The omakase selection was a visual and flavorful delight—each piece unique, delicate, and expertly prepared. Definitely a treat for sushi lovers who appreciate detail and variety.

That said, prices are on the higher side, so it’s more of a splurge than a regular stop. Also tried the salmon poke bowl, which was underwhelming compared to the sushi—flavors were muted and not as memorable.

Great spot for special occasions or when you’re in the mood to indulge in high-quality sushi.

Anko sushi is definitely a hidden gem. I randomly found Anko on Google map when I was in the area. I immediately changed my dinner plan to come here instead. It was definitely a steal for $60 omakase nigiri set menu. Super fresh and high quality fish. So gooood!!! I felt like I was transported to Japan through a truly authentic sushi experience in a casual dining setting. At the end of our meals, the lady at the counter brought us warm red bean mochi. It was so delicious. Such good way to wrap up our amazing dinner!!! Thank you, Anko ♥️
