An absolutely brilliant meal at Chilis South Indian & Asian Restaurant on King’s Walk in Reading. If you are a fan of authentic spicing, this place is a total gem. It is one of those spots that feels like a real find, tucked away on the first floor of The Village with a warm, bustling atmosphere that instantly makes you feel welcome.

Excellent variety on the Indo-Chinese menu, which is a fantastic addition to the more traditional South Indian fare. I usually go for the Gobi Manchurian, but this time I opted for the Chicken Manchurian. The flavours were spot on, tangy, spicy, and deeply savoury. My only tiny bit of constructive feedback would be the texture of the chicken. I was expecting it to be batter fried before being tossed in that sauce to give it a bit of crunch, and I think using thigh meat rather than breast would have made it even more succulent. That said, it was still a very tasty starter that disappeared quickly.

The absolute star of the show for me was the Mutton Fry. It was sensational and exactly how I hoped it would be, cooked down until the meat was tender and the spices had intensified into a rich, concentrated coating. It was bursting with flavour and easily the best dish of the night. We also went for the Lamb Biryani, which was another high point. I loved that the aromats and spices were beautifully layered rather than just stirred together.

I did find myself wishing for a few more South Indian breads like appams or hoppers to mop up the mutton fry, though I completely understand they are a bit of a logistical challenge to prepare fresh to order. However, the quality of the cooking we did have was top notch.

The service was impeccable throughout our visit. The staff were incredibly kind and pleasant, with genuine smiles all around that made the evening feel special. When you consider the generous portion sizes and the high standard of the food, it represents excellent value for money. Whether you are a hardcore foodie or just looking for a solid curry, I’d highlyrecommend Chilis.

The food here is generally nice, especially the South Indian chicken dishes — we really enjoyed those. However, the sambar felt more like a powder-based one rather than the traditional fresh sambar, which was a bit disappointing.
We also tried the tandoori, and honestly, it wasn’t that great. If you’re specifically craving tandoori, I’d recommend trying a good Punjabi place instead.
Overall, the experience was moderate — some dishes were good, but others could definitely be improved.

We went at a quite time 5:40pm on Sunday. Food was good, my wife really enjoyed the pizza dosa. Our experience could have been better if we had known the baby changing toilet. It was on the outside and we didn’t ask and ended up managing my 1 year in the mens toilet.

great experience and food! very tasty biryani. slightly overpriced so won’t frequent but worth the taste.

plate shape made resting cutlery difficult (flat plates would’ve been better) & the smell was heavy and dense due to food so better circulation would help!

I recently been to Chilis South Indian & Asian Restaurant with my family for lunch, and it was a fantastic experience. The ambiance was warm and welcoming, with a modern yet cozy feel. The food was delicious — especially the Veg Hakka Noodles, which was perfectly prepared and full of flavor and my daughter loved it. They even cooked us Aloo Jeera dry curry which was NOT in the menu!! Service was attentive and friendly, adding to the overall charm. Prices are fair for the quality, and I’d happily recommend this spot to anyone looking for a great meal in town.

Chilis (Reading, UK) Exceeded Expectations with Top-Notch Service and Delicious Food.
Our recent visit to Chilis in Reading was a standout experience, particularly impressed by the exceptional service and quality of the food. From the moment we were greeted, the staff were genuinely attentive and friendly, making us feel truly valued.
The food quality also surpassed our expectations. The Murgh Tikka Achari, was cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor, showcasing fresh ingredients and careful preparation. Even classic dishes like The Ajwaini Lasooni Ginga, were executed exceptionally well. This Chilis location clearly prioritizes both customer care and the taste of their menu.
Overall: Highly Recommended for outstanding service and surprisingly delicious food.
