From the moment the dishes arrived, everything felt carefully chosen and full of character—the colors, the freshness, the way each element complemented the other without feeling forced. The food felt indulgent yet balanced, with flavors that were bold but not overwhelming, and textures that kept every bite interesting. The seafood was cooked just right, rich and satisfying, while the dessert felt delicate, comforting, and quietly luxurious. It’s the kind of meal that doesn’t need explaining—you simply enjoy it, and it stays with you long after the table is cleared.

The dining room has such a great atmosphere, lively, stylish, and super welcoming. The Striped Bass Aguachile was absolutely fantastic, so fresh, bright, and full of flavor. We also loved the drinks, perfectly crafted and really complemented the meal. And the desserts were incredible, a perfect ending. Highly recommend!

had an amazing meal here. it felt really special coming back its in the old gem wine spot. The skewers were great!! we ordered the lengua. The layered potato was a little overcooked but still tasty. I loved the aguachile and beef crudo appetizers.
The first fish dish is a must-try — we had tilefish that day, and it paired so well with the comal rice. They also recommended a German orange wine, which was absolutely delicious!

We checked out this LES hot spot and left disappointed. The vibe and drinks were great, but the food was overpriced and underwhelming. The appetizers were especially bad — $30 for a few thin slices of salmon, and mussels that smelled so off we sent them back. The mains tasted better, but still weren’t worth it: a $95 12-oz steak and a $50 half chicken. Overall, great atmosphere but I wouldn’t recommend it for the food or value

Absolutely incredible experience all around! Front of house staff feels like family, and the back of house boys really hold it down!!! Chefs counter is fab for any foodie looking to see the magic happen! The flavors and restaurant have really settled into this iconic neighborhood and look forward to all the new dishes on rotation! Perfect for a fun night with friends, a date, and especially anyone popping in from out of town! A must visit just as Michelin says!

Comal is truly a hidden gem in Manhattan! The crab tostada and aguachile were incredibly fresh and flavorful, and the guava + vanilla soft serve was the perfect sweet surprise at the end. The space is small, cozy, and intimate with warm, soft lighting — perfect for a relaxed night out. Service was attentive and friendly throughout. Food is a solid 5/5, overall 5/5. Can’t wait to come back!

Comal is a warm, well designed space serving fine dining dishes based on Mexico city cuisine. The atmosphere is clearly very intentional in its composition, showcasing care for the details from the local artwork on the menus to the cloth napkins in the bathroom, and gentle lighting.

In terms of food, the flavors were amazing and the dishes crafted with seasonal ingredients. We tried the winter radish, which had a phenomenal crunch, great balance of tart and savory from the vinegar and sesame, as well as a bite of floral pepperiness from the marigold and coriander. We also thoroughly enjoyed the birria mussels and mil hojas potatoes. Our server Brooks was super helpful in guiding us through the menu and its new additions. The host gave us great advice in pairing the ice cream with the chocolate guajillo tart.

I have nothing negative to say about Comal. Give this gem a try.

I had high hopes for this place but it was shockingly mediocre across the board. The dishes didn’t taste very Mexican, most of the flavors and sauces were neither here nor there. Just a weird mix of things. The daikon salad was so sour, all the other flavors including the egg yolk got completely lost. The tilefish which was highly recommended was lacking in every way. The wagyu was really not wagyu, wasn’t tender at all and covered in a weird sauce. They also don’t take allergies very seriously, someone at my table had a severe dairy allergy and they didn’t serve the chicken wing separately from the rest of the chicken even though I had specifically specified. This place is a skip for me.

Food was excellent as was the El Montanista wine. Highly recommend blue fin aguachile item.

I agree with other reviewers, they need to work on service here. If you have the audacity to charge $62 for entrees, service should be white glove and flawless.

⛔️Know your wine list – if you are presenting wine, you should know basic info like varietals in every BTG option, which is not a large list.

⛔️ Be polite, friendly, warm and courteous – that is more indicative of Mexican and Latin culture. People choose to travel high end to Mexico for the hospitality. Think about that. I should not have had to refill my water while servers yank plates away.

⛔️ Yanking of plates (even when guests are intentionally sitting at bar vs table) and hastily rushing people is a sure way to leave guests with a bad taste in their mouth.

⚠️Good for pescatarians, but not vegetarians.

Went on a Friday night with reservations and sat at the bar. The space is super cute and small, which gives it a cozy vibe.

Service was okay, not bad but not amazing either. We had a late reservation and only ordered three things at first, letting the bartender know we’d be ordering more. Unfortunately, when we tried to order again, he told us the kitchen was closed. That was disappointing, especially since there was no warning or heads-up that we were close to the cutoff. We ended up ordering dessert instead + they gave it to us for free! Which was nice and definitely made up for the ok service.

All the food was good, nicely plated, fresh, and well-prepared, but it didn’t quite blow my mind. Still, the quality was there and you could tell everything was made with care. I’d return, but probably for something like happy hour or maybe during restaurant week rather than a late-night dinner.
