Got 2 meals for 11.99 each..we missed the “until 9am” 9.99 breakfast specials..tasted very good. Cheaper than alot of other places and the food was very good quality. (Bacon wasnt paper thin…french toast was very good..and pancakes were very good…Not disapointed at all. No complaints..except..restroom a little dirty…..no buyers remorse. Will go again…inside was awesome looking

This restaurant is a real gem! I tried the pastrami melt and the ABC burger, and both were fantastic. The portions were generous and the flavors were spot on. Everything tasted fresh and made with care. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a delicious meal.

Open since 1978 this is one of the classic, famous diners on former Route 66. The service and prices were great however, the food was just good and given all of the steep competition in terms of other diners in the area I had to give D’s a four, but overall we still enjoyed our breakfast. Inside looks as you would expect from the outside in that it is a traditional, 1950s retro diner. I have been going through all the diners in LA County and this was one of my very last ones on the list. It’s located in eastern Los Angeles, in La Verne, in a sleepier part of town. There is a large parking lot attached so parking was free and easy. Also, our server was very polite and just like all diners everything that we ordered came out very fast for a fair price.

I usually get Eggs Benedict or a Country Fried Steak when I go to a diner, but this visit I wanted to try one of their newly added items: the Loco Moco. It was not the best version that I’ve had this year, but it was still really good, the burger patty was cooked perfectly, so were the eggs, however, the gravy wasn’t as tasty as some others that I’ve had recently. It was a very large sized portion, so I was quite full after finishing it. The menu does have a lot of other classic dishes on it, which I would try if I stop in again in the future. I would suggest this to anyone in the area, although there are a few other diners close by that I believe edge this one out.

I came in for lunch today, feeling grouchy and unsure about anything in that moment especially what to eat. I just knew I was hungry. The waitress was persistent and understanding of the harsh world we live in. She helped me decide to order a gourmet burger, which was the perfect choice. The burger and fry’s were absolutely delicious and cooked perfectly the presentation superb once I finished eating. Everything made sense to me in my life again Mr Ds sent me on my way feeling fulfilled full and happy again thanks for the excellent service and food. If you’re thinking about eating here don’t think twice just walk in

If diners had a Hall of Fame, Mr. D’s would already have its jacket hanging in the rafters.

From the second you pull up, you know exactly what you’re getting — classic chrome, old-school vibes, and zero interest in being trendy. This place isn’t chasing food fads. It’s too busy doing what diners were meant to do: serve real food that actually tastes good.

Let’s talk about the plate, because this wasn’t some sad diner stereotype.
The shrimp skewers were legit — grilled perfectly, seasoned right, and cooked by someone who understands that shrimp shouldn’t be rubber bands. The grilled vegetables? Fresh, colorful, and not drowning in grease like they’re trying to hide something. Even the bread showed up warm and confident, like it knew it belonged on the plate.

And that’s the thing — everything here knows its role.
Nothing is pretending to be “elevated.” Nothing is trying to impress Instagram. It’s just honest, well-executed diner food that reminds you why diners still matter.

Inside, it’s peak Americana: counter seating, booths, stainless steel, and the unmistakable feeling that this place has been doing it right for a long time. Outside, the building itself is a time machine — the kind of spot you’d expect to see in a movie where the food is always good and nobody leaves hungry.

Service? Friendly, efficient, and refreshingly normal. No forced cheer. No attitude. Just people doing their job well — which somehow feels rare these days.

Bottom line:
Mr. D’s Diner isn’t trying to reinvent the wheel.
They’re just making sure it rolls perfectly — every single time.

If you want a diner that actually delivers on the promise of a diner, this is it.
Five stars. No notes. I’ll be back.
