My wife and I visited Howdy’s recently for a morning meal. The restaurant offers a unique concept called a “sushi burrito,” which is essentially a large sushi roll. We ordered the spicy tuna burrito and the salmon burrito; both were enjoyable, and the sauces were notably tasty.
The atmosphere was quiet as we arrived early, and the establishment was very clean. It is worth noting that this is a counter-service restaurant where you order and pay upon entry, rather than traditional table service. Despite this, the service was excellent. The staff was attentive, clearing trash from our table several times and checking in to see if we needed anything.
We appreciated the efficiency and cleanliness of the restaurant.

This is not your average Mexican restaurant. It’s gourmet Mexican food with a family like atmosphere. Malibu vibe at It’s best. The lobster burrito is pure addiction. I love that they are happy to customize your order any way you like. Don’t try this place unless your ready find yourself driving there (even if out of the way) to curb your new craving.

I bought the salmon sushi burrito again today. I was surprised to find imitation crab in it for the 1st time with little salmon. It is still good, but I would prefer just salmon like it used to be. It was called spicy salmon sushi burrito, not salmon and crab sushi burrito. In addition, they gave me tuna, instead of Salmon. ♀️

Great ambiance dining in an open air area with live plants on the walls and glass to stop wind. Food is not cheap, a little more expensive than Santa Barbara Mexican food, but flavors were amazing. Had Horchata, 2 shrimp tacos with beans and rice, and the best burrito I ever had! Price was about $55 including tip. But considering where we were I already expected that! Cute courtyards and live music also available along with some Italian food options or coffee houses.
Right…also Howdy’s shares space with a Sushi menu. That is unique.

I love stopping here after a morning hike in Malibu. Convenient location with good parking but I think there’s valet starting at a certain time. The breakfast burrito is what I’ve eaten twice there already. I love the salsa that it comes with.
Not the biggest breakfast burrito so it’s not shareable if you’re hungry (esp after a hike!) but it’s good if you want a snack to share.

Such a great local Malibu restaurant. One of the owners served alongside me on the Malibu Chamber of Commerce Board, and Howdy’s is also a dedicated member of the Palibu Chamber — you can truly feel their support for our community. The food is fantastic (the Pepperdine Burrito with chicken is my must-order), and it’s always a welcoming place to bring friends.

I have to admit, I was initially skeptical about trying Howdy’s in Malibu, expecting it to be just another spot serving Americanized Mexican food. But after finally giving it a chance, I’m happy to say I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, the food has a bit of an American twist, but it’s also absolutely delicious.
Our kids devoured their meals so quickly that they asked for a second burrito, which says a lot! My wife tried the Mexican pizza and loved every bite. As for me, I went with the classic Rito, and it was nothing short of amazing—packed with flavor and perfectly satisfying.
Whether you’re a local or just passing through Malibu, I highly recommend giving Howdy’s a try. It’s a fantastic spot for a casual meal that will exceed your expectations.

The salmon burrito is delicious but the watermelon juice was the best.
Excellent spot in general with great outdoor seating. Great little spot and can’t wait to come back and try other stuff.

I tried their seafood burrito with salmon and I added shrimp for extra. It was pretty good with the guacamole side. Highly recommend the seafood burrito!

Had breakfast here with my son. We split a breakfast burrito and french toast (available on weekends). Burrito was very good and the French toast delicious. It was very crowded when we went (on a Saturday around 11:45 am) and the parking lot was very full and congested. That said, the food was good and I’d go back to try other dishes or their sushi.
