This is the best bakery ever, I live 1500 miles away and when I come back to town it’s the first thing I do. Danish Tea Cookies are excellent. I had the pink champagne cake for my wedding 26 years ago, also delicious.

Just so you know their pink champagne cake just has that regular grocery store type whip topping, not anything special or extraordinary, and for the price you expect a little bit more. It’s really not a traditional champagne cake where they put custard in it unfortunately. It’s just three layers with whip in the middle and whip frosting on the outside. It’s OK, but it doesn’t taste very much like champagne and the lack of custard really is a bummer. It doesn’t taste like it has champagne in the frosting or the cake at all, which is what it should be traditionally. The chocolate cake could use a little more dark chocolate flavor. The divinity cookies are really good and the snickerdoodles are more on the hard side. If you like a soft snickerdoodle, you’re not going to find it here. I really didn’t wanna spend the time but I think I’m going to have to make my own champagne cake if I want that traditional taste I’m looking for. Nobody seems to get it right in the retail shops. It does take more time and more ingredients to make, but it adds so much more. I hate to say they’re taking shortcuts here, but they are.

I cannot believe I was served cardboard crap and told it was a muffin. I mean – really – whoa. I don’t know how old most of their food is, but when I go to a bakery in the morning, I expect some fresh stuff. I love the vintage counters – but the food shouldn’t look, feel, or taste old. The breakfast muffin thing I ordered could not have been made today – and I doubt yesterday. It was cold, hard, and had no flavor. I heard they have great champagne cake – and it did look pretty – but I will never go back. And I may call the health department … I’m still shook. Has anyone checked on them? Are they ok? They opened in the 1940s – possibly when that muffin was made. I love old shops – it’s why I wanted to check out the place – but it’s just sad. The only redeeming thing was a relatively nice person working there. I’m gonna pretend she didn’t realize what hard relic of ancient food she put in that bag and handed to me.

I’ve been going to McGavin’s for years and know the cakes are consistently high quality and delicious. We wanted a small cake to cut for our wedding and McGavin’s did a phenomenal job matching an inspiration photo I showed them. Guests who tried a slice of the cake also commented on how delicious it was and were asking where it was from. I couldn’t have been happier with the cake, I highly recommend them!

Bought a friend their famous Champagne Cake for her birthday and didn’t realize they close at 3pm so I showed up late and thought I really blew it, but contacted them online and to my surprise got a response within 5min. An employee made a trip to open just so I could pick it up and saved the day…Thank you! The slice we saved for someone was unbelievably moist and held up remarkably 3 days later. Many other treats were taken home and sampled by us and all were wonderful… Amazingly friendly and kind staff and owner/manager, definitely a positive experience.

New spring hours as of March 1st 0700-1500. Makes it little bit easier to swing by and bring treats into work.
The crew is killing it now, last time I was here was 9 years ago and it is almost a completely new operation. Everything is fresh and looks amazing. I picked up several king cakes for Mardi gras, they were the talk of the office today. Now I’m going to be expected to bring in more treats from here. The cookies are very fun looking. The danishes and cinnamon rolls caught my eye for next time.

I placed a special order for baby shower cookies and cupcake. I provided pictures to the bakery of what I was wanting and they were EXACTLY like the pictures I provided!! They were beautiful and tasted great. The cupcakes were very light and airy, (not dry at all), and the cookies were soft and not too sweet but the icing made them just perfect. Everyone at the baby shower asked where I got them! Thanks McGavins, Alex, and the (girl decorator who helped me when I picked up) for making sure they were just right!! Please see the beautiful pictures I have. Thank you!!
