I came here for Veterans Day because you get a free appetizer. I ordered the mussels. They were perfectly seasoned! Delectable. I’m honestly surprised that for the amount I got, it was only $13. But I did not have to pay anything because it was Veterans Day. But on any other day, I would totally come back to eat the mussels again. I’m curious to try other menu items.
I love the dark moodiness of this place. The ambiance is perfect for date night. I’m surprised at how big and deep this spot is. It does not seem as if it would be this massive inside from seeing the building from the outside.
As for the food, I found it to be just okay. I ordered the chicken parmesan—it tasted fine, but it lacked seasoning and overall flavor. On a positive note, the complimentary salad and rolls were very good. However, the salad had a lot of the tough inner core of the lettuce head, which was disappointing and required some cutting up.
Dessert was definitely the highlight of the meal. The cheesecake was light, fluffy, and not overly dense, which I really enjoyed. The lemon cake was outstanding—full of flavor and generously portioned. The ice cream, while unique, had an odd taste that I personally wouldn’t go for again.
Would I come back to this restaurant? No probably not.
The spaghetti and meat sauce were also delicious as we’re the little garlic butter rolls.
Would definitely recommend and I will definitely be back!
Immediately seated. The restaurant was not as busy as usual so I was surprised with the slow service. It took so long before anyone came by to get us water that I had already started trying to find another restaurant (not familiar with the area).
My husband ordered pasta fagioli soup and the waiter said it would take a minute for the soup. It was a long minute! He had eaten about 1/3 of the soup and our food arrived. I’ve never had it take that long for soup. They had to cook the veal franchese so there should have been plenty of time to eat soup before any food arrived.
The garlic rolls have always been a favorite but they were basically inedible because of the amount of garlic skins. Whoever did the garlic obviously did not even bother with taking it out of the skin. Very disappointing. (But trying to stay positive, that did keep us from eating too many.)
I’ve never had a bad meal from Provino’s. Since I no longer live close to one, I was really excited to eat there. Too bad it wasn’t up to expectations.
