Best part about this place is you can get the great local beer selection of a taproom but the food isnt an after-thought. Well above typical barfood and the like.
Had the crabcake sandwich on special, light and full of flaky crab (not bready and full of filler) and just the right amount of the remoulade. Kids had the kids chicken and waffles as always, still best kids menu item at any restaurant I’ve been to so far. Been coming here for a few years fairly regularly and will be back again.
We had a large group of 18, which I had emailed earlier in the week – Maggie, who not only responded back quickly, but also created a great space for us in the back room! Then Natalie S, who was our server! She was Magical!!! Quick, efficient, SUPER friendly, always had a smile, and kept our orders right!
Thanks for making this time with my friends and family super magical and Delicious!
We ordered through Door Dash and we were thrilled to sample one after another of great tasting dishes. One detail I’d recommend is not placing the delicate Mahi (or Salmon) on the bottom of the bag when packing a large order. The container and the fish were smashed by the multiple other items we ordered.
The dishes we enjoyed:
The Dessert Flight – we aren’t sure what they were since DoorDash doesn’t give a description of what is included in the “flight,” but each of the four desserts was delicious. There was a tiny plastic ramekin of a bitter chocolate mousse type thing included as well. We assumed it was intended to be a topping for one of the four desserts, but we had no idea which.
The flavor of the blackened mahi with risotto was wonderful. The filet was a decent size. My husband admitted this morning that the risotto was not as good as he first described. He said the risotto was slightly under-cooked and gritty. I’ve never heard of a gritty risotto so I hope this isn’t the norm for TMJ.
The sourdough club had a ton of meat and was wonderful. I removed the tomato since it was mealy, so I’d recommend that staff leave it off the sandwich if there aren’t great tomatoes in stock.
The side of Fried GT was delicious. The three slices quickly disappeared when we found them. Of the three tomato slices, the one on the bottom was soggy and cold. But the flavor of the others still made the dish a hit.
The side of chicken tenders was great. We loved how hearty the cuts of chicken were. It’s a shame that only 2 come as the side order. But they were very enjoyable and we’re glad we tried them.
The buffalo chicken egg rolls were delicious as well. We appreciated that the chicken was so finely shredded. That made the texture perfect.
The potato salad side was delicious as well. The hint of bacon made it.
The side spinach strawberry salad was lovely. The only thing we would change is that the dressing ramekin be placed on an empty spot next to the spinach. Instead, it was smashed on top of the little cluster of cheese and strawberries, even though there was space inside the container to set it down next to the salad ingredients.
We would absolutely order again and are so happy we tried TMJT.
Wow. Totally acceded our expectations. Very cozy atmosphere. Staff is so welcoming and friendly. Food was hands down the best we’ve had in years. We got the mason jar fries, fish and chips, and the hot honey chicken. Thanks for everything Mason Jar.
I never order club sandwiches, but the Mason Jar Tavern has a very good and extensive menu, so it was difficult to make a decision on what to order. After I told my server the three dishes I had it narrowed down to, she told me the club was one of their popular lunch dishes, and since I never order clubs, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to go for it! I’m glad I did! Next time I’m going to try the Fried Green Tomato BLT, as the server said it was a house favorite, as well.
My main course was very good, but the star of the show was the dessert flight. The Chocolate Chess pie and the S’mores in a Jar were my favorites, but the apple cobbler and Crème Brûlée were delicious, too! If I could only choose one, it would’ve been the Chocolate Chess pie.
Lastly, my server and the service was wonderful! She was very sweet and the epitome of Southern hospitality! : )
I’m looking forward to dining here again when I return to the Raleigh/Fuquay Varina area.
