The service was fair and the food was good. This used to be a Sizzler before COVID killed it. It is nice to see the community didn’t lose a place to eat. The prices are reasonable.

As far as dinner food is concerned its top of the top shelf in my book! Wonderful friendly staff who genuinely like their jobs and enjoy their customers. I always see the wait staff taking extra care to listen carefully to and respond thoughtful to the elders who are there eating alone. They never appear too busy to listen to the 20 minute long story they’ve heard for the 5th time. Its so touching!
They manage to rude customers with dignity and respect and they take extra care to go above and beyond for their regulars. Its healing to the bitter jagged heart of the modern city dweller to see a company truly put their customers first!
This quickly became our #1 go to!

The potatoes, for some reason, were awful. It was bitter and the bell peppers and onions were undercooked. My husband says his burger was plain. I did try his fries and he didn’t enjoy them either, they were overcooked and dry. I’d say stay away from veggies and potatoes, if you’re ordering here. Or stick to pancakes and waffles.

I stopped by for breakfast
and had a good experience
with the food and service.

I was seated after a short wait
and ordered the Build your
own Bears Choice Breakfast
with two eggs, pork sausage
links, and sweet cream pancakes.

The breakfast menu is served
all day with a number of
options including omelettes,
bendicts, pancakes, and
much more.

I received my order in about
twenty minutes with no
problems.

The eggs were not overcooked, the sausage had good taste, and the pancakes were large and fluffy.

The diner has a large menu
for lunch and dinner with
weekly specials, a kids menu,
baked goods, bottomless
coffee, and fountain drinks.

The diner offers free Wi-Fi.

Located on SE 82nd in
Portland just south of SE
Powell.

A nice place to stop for breakfast with a number of menu options, good food, friendly service, and a commitment to giving you a great value.

Honestly, came in with low expectations, a chain diner in the northwest scared me a little bit as someone from North Carolina, a lot of breakfasts I’ve seen since moving here have been below my expectations since I’m used to a large and proper southern breakfast. Also, I was expecting something comparable a larger chain rather than a local one, where the food quality suffers in exchange for speed and convenience.

Luckily, not only did this not disappoint, it far exceeded my expectations. Prices felt incredibly cheap for the amount of food I got, that I finally got a plate with the portions I’m used to expecting back home satisfied me, especially since it was similar to what I’d expect to pay for the same meal back home even though Portland tends to run about 20-30% more expensive on a meal out. If I ever find myself in that part of town again, I’ll definitely go back. Food was delicious, I felt like I got a good value, and service was good. Only real complaint was just not *quite* as fast of service as I was used to, my coffee cup did get empty instead of refilled closer to the 3/4 mark. Also, the eggs seemed a bit sulfury instead of fresh. But, that’s nothing since service was friendly and I got to eat my first large meal in town. Overall, highly recommend, despite some small issues.

Scrolling through the upside app, I found Black Bear and decided to give it a try. The staff were very attentive, also checking our coffee and our waters which was really great. My boyfriend’s bacon mac and cheese was absolutely delicious… However my Biscuit and Gravy wasn’t worth writing home about. The biscuits are HUGE, I will give it that, however there was barely any gravy and some of it was COLD! The gravy was luke warm at best with cold spots. Next time will definitely try something else, hopefully not cold.

Stopped because it’s the first place I’ve ever seen that has bread pudding French toast, one of my wife’s favorites.

Ample portions, competitive prices, very good service, and a nice dining room. A fun activity for kids would be to see how many bears they can count.

Great diner with plenty of diner favorites. If you’re having breakfast, The Bear’s Build Your Own Breakfast Isa good way to go. Today I had two eggs, two strips of delicious bacon, and the star: sweet cream pancakes. I don’t often get pancakes but, if they all tasted like this, I’d have them more often.
Friendly and helpful staff and a nice diner atmosphere. Highly recommended!
