Social Profile:

It all began in 1993, when two local boys in Gulf Shores, Alabama decided to open up a casual family-focused seafood restaurant on the Gulf Coast. The idea was to create a restaurant where people would feel welcome to be themselves, families could afford to dine out together and strangers would leave as friends. Coastal vacationers demanded that Shrimp Basket expand to provide this incredible seafood value to those unable to be at the beach year round. Today, we’re happy to offer locations across the Southeast for family and friends to feel a part of the beach, dine and enjoy delicious seafood! At the Shrimp Basket, our goal is to make sure that you – our friends – leave happy and satisfied after every visit.

Informal chain outpost offering a variety of fried seafood dishes & an oyster bar.

Stopped in at Shrimp Basket after a long travel day because I wanted something real—not fast food. I arrived around 7pm on a Wednesday and was mindful they were nearing closing, but the service never felt rushed.

I was greeted by Jordan, who was lovely, and my server Harrison Daniels was exceptional—polished, attentive, and genuinely professional without being overbearing. He’s a marketing/business major, and it showed in how he carried himself. Outstanding service.

The oysters were excellent—a dozen, fresh, briny, and delicious. I was happy to learn they had just received a new shipment that day. Paired nicely with a glass of Pinot Grigio.

The seafood gumbo was okay, but the rice was undercooked. Unfortunately, the crab legs were oversteamed and rubbery—clearly the weakest part of the meal.

That said, the oysters and service really stood out. I’m giving this four stars because when they’re on, they’re very on. I’d absolutely return for oysters and good conversation alone.

I’m visiting for work, craving crab claws and I checked a couple of restaurants but I stopped here. It’s was an EXCELLENT choice!!!!!. I haven’t had crab claws this good and meaty in a long time. The staff were very friendly, my bartender/ server was Shana. I ordered the crab claw dinner w/ 2 sides , I picked okra. EVERYTHING was cooked and seasoned perfectly! The tartar sauce was fresh and homemade, you can tell from the front to the back they truly enjoy what they do. Thank you all and it won’t be my last time.

We’re on a 19 hour drive back home and had to stop halfway for the night, we saw the restaurant on the maps and decided to stop. Staff greeted us promptly and the food only took about 10 minutes. We took it back to our hotel and were very happy with the meals we received. The food was seasoned well, hot, cooked how we asked and we were given plenty of condiments. I was pleasantly surprised by the hush puppies being seasoned as most places don’t do that (so I just don’t eat them) my son is a big fan of the seasoned ones! Everything was perfect, even my picky 4 year old ate his and some of ours! If we’re ever back in the area we plan to stop in and eat.

Had the “Alabama” shrimp that cost 2 dollars more than other state shrimp. It was pretty good, I ordered it blackened, and there wasn’t very much flavor or seasoning. The grits with cheese were pretty good, and the slaw was ok. The fries were fries, the shrimp were very good, they tasted fresh and it was a good portion. Enough food I didn’t finish it all. Only real complaint was the lack of seasoning on the shrimp. If I ever have a hankerin’ for shrimp again I would go back.

Honestly, this place isn’t great. I ate here a couple of days ago with my dad and had a pretty iffy experience. I definitely won’t be back here again because of it.

Our server was fantastic though (I can’t remember her name, but she was absolutely wonderful)! She was very attentive, hardworking, and made sure we were satisfied with our meals. The other servers who were working that day were either not working diligently or were on a break because there were three other servers talking at a table in the back for about an hour while this girl was running around making sure all her tables were satisfied. She did a fantastic job at handling the situation though.

She was really the best part about this restaurant because everything basically goes downhill from there.

Negatives:
-The bathrooms are DISGUSTING
-Silverware was dirty (asked for a new fork)
-Out of several items or were told they were not good and to not order them
-Portions are pretty small for the price
-OVERPRICED FOOD
-Fries were droopy (not very crispy)

Positives
-The combo basket with whitefish and shrimp was good (waitress recommended), but the portion was small.
-The homemade ranch and hot sauce was really good on the fish.

Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this place and won’t be back. There are better seafood places in Tuscaloosa. You’re better off going to the Captain D’s next door than here.

We love all of the shrimp Basket locations. Our a favorite item on the menu Is their shrimp basket, but occasionally we will get the popcorn shrimp or the shrimp poor boy . Occasionally my wife will get the crabcakes. They are all excellent. And I love their shrimp slaw which you get with the shrimp basket or as a side. The service there is usually quick unless they have a huge crowd. I don’t take the three star rating on atmosphere as a knock on the franchise. The atmosphere is just fine, It’s just nothing fancy.

I ate at this restaurant last Saturday before a football game and it was truly a wonderful experience. The food was delicious and the service was very fast. We were greeted by no less than 5 of the staff including one of the owners/management as we were getting out of our car who invited us to a shrimp boil they were having in the parking lot as a dining option. The staff was SO nice and we were checked on a lot but not in an annoying way. Everyone was SO nice. I will definitely eat here again. Don’t pass this one by!!
