We needed to leave the world of overpriced hotel buffet breakfasts and have a decent and quick local meal during our 1-night stay in Fairbanks…River City Cafe fit the bill of a place that was a) open when we left hungry early in the morning, b) was quick as we just had a little bit of time to see downtown Fairbanks before needing to be back at the hotel for a Riverboat Cruise, and close to other things we wanted to see downtown.

It’s an order-at-the-counter coffee shop with a full espresso bar, drip coffee, and breakfast sandwiches. Good options for vegetarians too.

I got an English Muffin Sammie with just egg and cheese. It came with American cheese and there was an upcharge to pick any other cheese they had…I went with Gouda and the sandwich was good.

My wife didn’t want bread so they laid it out on lettuce for her…ended up being more like a breakfast salad but it filled her up.

I tried their drip coffee but found it wasn’t strong enough for my tastes. They were nice enough to let me trade it back in as a downpayment for a double espresso which they served me in a fine “Alaska” mug and it was much better.

The staff served as quickly and well, though they didn’t seem happy to be there. The 2 people we spoke with never smiled and we got the impression we may have been annoying them without special requests (no bread with my wife’s sandwich, the different cheese, trading in the coffee) so that was a little bit of a bummer. Still, the food and drink served us well and came out quickly.

It’s a good quick stop for an espresso-based coffee drink and quick breakfast meal or pastry. Super close to the ice museum and a couple minutes walk from the Antlers Arch and Cultural Center.

Food was expensive and very dry. It took a long time to come out. When I asked for some mayo to make the turkey and provolone wrap go down easier, I was charged 75 cents. Don’t waster you money.

Adorable retro cafe in a bright space with various seating options. The walls are adorned with beautiful landscape paintings by local artists. 1st visit: Had an iced spice chai latte. ☕️ Friendly staff, esp the blonde lady with glasses (didn’t catch her name). She recommended that i try their Biscuits & Gravy, which is their well known special dish. Returned the next day for their Biscuits & Gravy. It was a nice savoury treat: flavourful & peppery. The portion was generous & can easily be shared by 2 people. They made me a good cortado with soy milk (even though it wasn’t on the menu). Overall, a solid cafe for a quick meal in downtown.

THE BEST blueberry scones I have ever had. Also I love the Kaladi Brothers coffee they use. And I bought the gluten free raspberry almond bar which was also fantastic!
One of the best places for baked goods and of course coffee.

Extremely rude waitress! I found this place because it was listed as celiac friendly and having gluten free items, however customer service lacked to say the least. Maybe because I have an Eastern European accent, who knows, but the lady at the counter was rude to say the least! Not recommend and I def regret tipping her. Food wise, it also sucked. Don’t waste your money here, better eat at the Crepery where there’s great customer service !

Great place for a quick bite before heading out to nature. Our lattes were good, and the breakfast sammies on english muffins were delicious. Not the kind of place you want to plan a sit down breakfast with a large party, but perfect for single person or 2-3 person parties looking for a quick place with a great atmosphere. I would come here again to get a coffee for the road.

We were looking for breakfast without a crowd or long wait and found this little cafe.

Large portions, great pricing and tastes great as well. Friendly staff is the icing on the cake.

Had the biscuits & gravy and the breakfast sammy.

Not bad. Food and smoothie was good. The only part that felt off was seeing the employee use the microwave a lot while we were there. Good joint to get your basics.

There was no wait when we came on a Saturday morning. It is a cute little cafe. The coffee is good and the biscuits and gravy had a good flavor. Great for a small bite to eat or lunch.
