I was unfortunately seated next to a noisy service alcove. There was a lot of staff traffic. Noisy bussing bens with clinking glasses frequently were carried near my table. This made the atmosphere around my table busy and unpleasant.
The place could use some modernization and improvement on service work flow design.
It was too cold to enjoy the patio.
Service was friendly and attentive.
The food was good. The menu options are many.
I will give this restaurant a second try. I will not be seated near the service alcove.
More recently, the atmosphere has become more relaxed, with fewer crowds and comfortable booth seating, allowing us to enjoy a leisurely meal. Since then, we’ve been coming back from time to time.

After not coming for a few years, we wanted a light meal and ordered an Avocado BLT ($14.25), a Chicken Rice Bowl ($15), coffee ($3.75), and a large grapefruit juice ($5). It was a quiet time, and we enjoyed a relaxing meal at a booth.

We returned and had the Pork Enchilada ($15) and Beef Stroganoff ($16.50), along with a craft beer ($7) and Moroccan coffee ($10.50). We were seated at the same booth as before and had a pleasant, leisurely time. We were seated at the same booth as before and had a pleasant, leisurely time. The server was polite, attentive.
I can say, at least now I am able to feel better about last night’s situation…
The owner of Reedville called me today and sincerely apologize for the situation that took place lastnight! I wasn’t asking for anything but an apology last night and that did not come from the manager, but the owner was not pleased and is more than adequately taking care of things for us! I have to say that says a lot about his business ethics!
After talking to him I understand he is in a really tough spot! He is a new owner and trying to live up to the expectations of his customers who have been coming there for many years! He is trying to keep things the way that Rick had them so it keeps customers happy but there are things he would like to change (the meal we had lastnight is one of then) but he is afraid to ruin the reputation of the restaurant by making changes to quickly! He is keeping the menu consistent with the original menu and recipes and hoping the customers will be willing to accept that some changes can be good, so he can possibly try new things! I really do appreciate him calling me back and at least apologizing and recognizing that the situation that happened last night was not appropriate!
With all that said, because of him I will give them another try! I hope that others will too! Let’s all give him a little time to get settled and hope that he will continue to make good changes, that continue to please the public! Thank you very much!

HORRIBLE, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE AND SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!!
QUALITY WENT DOWN THE DRAIN!!!
There are lots of the other restaurants out there that have quality and stand behind their business
We have been long time customers at Readville Cafe, tonight we received an order that was nothing short of a Denny’s restaurant!
We called and complained to the manager and all she did was offers to come in on a Tuesday and get a senior discount! Seriously????
I said why would I come back in for food that was inferior and you’re not even going to stand behind? She said, well all I can say is our recipes haven’t changed so, next time you come in don’t order that!
Because of her response I certainly wouldn’t go back and I really think that other people should think about it themselves! Like I said to her, If your food hasn’t changed then you should be willing to stand by your Recipe/Quality because, today, it is not good!
The chicken fried steak looked like a little thin hamburger patty with some kind of cheap breading, like it a premade store-bought processed patty. Typically chicken fried steak is a chicken breast pounded out with a crunchy breading that is deep fried. The vegetables stink!!! They were hard and smelled rotten, like the broccoli and cauliflower were old! The gravy was just short of a packaged gravy you could make from the grocery store!
The manager would not budge on belief of our experience, stating their food was high quality and nothing had changed in years. She was rude and was not even apologetic , she would not offer a discount and didn’t care that she had an unhappy customer!
If this is how they run their business then people should think hard about going there! This certainly NOT the Reedville Cafe that it always has been! The old owner and manager, Rick, would never have treated customers like that!, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE AND SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!!

The Reedville Cafe began as the Shack Tavern in 1934, later becoming The Crab Shack around the late 1960s before the Van Beveren family, who owned the business since 1950, officially renamed it the Reedville Cafe in 1990. The restaurant, known for its American classics and seafood, was sold in early 2025 after being a family-run establishment for over 70 years.
In April, Tim Sapa officially took the reins of the classic American diner off Southeast Tualatin Valley Highway, stepping in after decades of ownership by the Van Beveren family. Known for its hearty comfort fare — from omelets, pancakes and Benedicts in the morning to burgers, burritos and pastas later in the day — Reedville Cafe has long held its place as a neighborhood go-to, serving up nostalgic charm with broad appeal.
