Carmelita’s was my favorite Mexican restaurant when I lived in St. Pete, and even after living in Texas for more than 15 years — with no shortage of good Mexican food — it still holds up. The food is consistently great, and it remains a place I look forward to visiting whenever I’m back in the area.

The tamales are a standout and absolutely worth ordering, and the chips and salsa are delicious and set the tone for the meal right away. Everything we’ve had has been well executed and satisfying. Carmelita’s remains a classic for a reason, and it’s a spot I’d confidently recommend to anyone looking for a great Mexican meal in St. Petersburg.

In moving from Brandon, I was going to miss my local favorite Mexican restaurants. Moving to Seminole, I ate at a few Mexican restaurants, which were just okay, and some downright bad- either the food, service, or both. That is until I ate at Carmelita’s. I was impressed right away, with the food and service. With some of the other places I visited, the first time may have been great, but the other visits are lacking. Everything I have been to Carmelita’s it has been consistent. Great food and (friendly) service. I have found my new favorite Mexican restaurant in Pinellas. Thank you.

It’s an okay spot. I’ve been a couple of times now, typically for lunch. The food is pretty good; service has been noticeably slow both times I’ve gone. I went once with two other people (party of 3), and most recently, with seven others (party of 8). I would not recommend this to someone on a lunch break from work, based on my own experiences. The atmosphere is pretty vanilla, it has a “dive bar” feel to it – which for some is not necessarily a bad thing.

I’ve been going to Carmelita’s regularly since I moved to St. Pete in 2008. It is my favorite restaurant in the area. An absolute solid 10/10. The staff are also amazing. They remember you, especially Carol. She’s our go to server and is an absolute gem!

The charro beans are fire. This authentic family has been here since 1983. You can never be sad at a Mexican restaurant Adios!

We were asked if we’d take a table and said we’d prefer a booth. Apparently this annoyed them. We could see three unused booths and were told they’d have to clean one off. That took about 5 minutes. Then we sat at the booth and no one came near for quite a while. We got up and left; told them we were going to the OTHER Carmelita’s in Pinellas Park. It’s a little bit farther but we have never been disappointed!

Food was not good, got the steak and chicken fajitas and they were dry and not cooked like traditional fajitas. Also got queso and guac. The tortillas tasted weird, the queso was so plain. I almost never write reviews unless they are good, but $65 for what I consider a 2/10 is rough. I don’t recommend.

Every single person outside of my waiter had a Snappy and Sassy attitude. I just don’t have to leave my wallet and when I called to retrieve it again I received attitude. The tacos were two out of five and the rice and beans was actually decent the complimentary chips and salsa was okay as well they had a good in-house hot sauce but outside of that I definitely would not go back!

I think the guacamole is missing cilantro.
I’ve ordered from this place several times and the guac has no flavor. It’s a shame if you really like Mexican food. It just tastes like a mashed up avocado.

The place is clean & the staff are very nice that being said. My fiance asked for a long Island tea cause it says full bar on the menu she said they don’t know how to make that. Then I asked for Miller lite cause there were 3 light up Miller lite signs & she said they don’t carry that…she said we encourage you to order from this drink menu only so thats what we did. The Mexican pizza was decent. The taco salad was dry chicken hardly any kind of sauce & just totally bland. I didn’t even eat half. We got the appetizer combo. The wing sauce was good & the platter was decent
