So the hubs saw this little restaurant on the corner and was intrigued by it and decided to take me for breakfast there.
I have to say that I was a little more than disappointed – the atmosphere was good, water was served promptly as were menus upon being seated. The system broke down after that. Our waitress took our orders, I had the $11 plate of corned beef hash and two eggs – the plate came; shall I say a plate on top of a plate. The corned beef was about 1 1/3 cups worth at that under two eggs, the plate was small for the price, I am unsure of the thinking behind putting a sizzler plate on top of a regular plate and then basically making the amount of food so scarce as to be a joke – layering plates to hide the amount to justify the price? The coffee was good and came in an enormous cup. The waitress never checked in, did NOT ask to refresh drinks, we had to waive her down for more butter, which she forgot, then remembered. She was lucky she even got a tip due to lack of understanding of how to be a waitress. Overall disappointed. Can’t recommend.

Have always heard great things about this place. Just went, for the 1st time, this morning for breakfast.
Was seated immediately. Waited a minimum of 5-10 min before being acknowledged. That was after asking numerous other staff where our server was. Ordered and received our food in a reasonable amount of time. Breakfast sandwich was pretty good, better than the greasy mess at The Keys restaurant. Wife’s eggs were cooked wrong and it took another 5-10 min to flag down an employee to find our server to get the order corrected. Pancakes were thick and dense and were filling.
On my way to the restroom, spotted a couple of burgers others were eating and they looked good.
Restroom needs serious help. Have you ever cleaned this place? I’m talking caked-on feces on the toilet and a horrible smell throughout the room.
Overall, food was what I expected but service was horrible and the restroom needs a nuke set of in it to kill all the bacteria.
I will NOT be back to this place, ever.

Went there for 3rd or 4th time with my husband and daughter..their service has gone downhill.. the waiter never asked my husband what he wanted to drink .my daughter never got her free drink with her meal. My burger was wrong n they basically just scraped off the toppings n added new ones. I asked for a soda n when the waiter came out he had my straw in or next to his mouth.. food was also very greasy this time .won’t be going back unfortunately. I liked the place the other times.

I was so sad when we went to the Broiler for dinner tonight. My husband and I have been eating at the St. Clair Broiler for more than 10 years, but they recently changed their menu, and apparently forgot how to serve good food. The new menu didn’t have the Ruben that my husband was craving, but we decided to stay anyway. He tried out the Cuban sandwich, and I ordered the French toast expecting the Broiler’s typical amazing breakfast food.

We were both incredibly disappointed. The Cuban wasn’t pressed. It was just a basic sandwich. And the French toast was terrible. Instead of the beautiful sliced french bread that is soaked through with custard, I got two slices of thick sliced Texas toast, barely covered in fried egg. The custard didn’t soak through at all, so it basically just tasted like two slices of thick toast. Not at all the french toast I had come to expect from the Broiler.

Not only was the food back, but the service tonight was lackluster. The waitress was friendly enough, but the service was incredibly slow. And we had a baby, and two young children with us. Waiting 10 minutes to order, another 20 minutes for the food, and then having to ask for the check because the waitress hasn’t come back after another 30 minutes is just not the experience we were looking for.

Needless to say, we won’t be going back. It’s really too bad to see this St. Paul classic taking such a horrible turn.

Just went for fish fry, two pieces, first piece almost raw, second piece done better but all batter. The waitress never came back to the table, literally had to walk up to the register to pay the bill and leave. Almost $17 each for one serving of the all you can eat fish fry, yeah sure. Never going back, and I live a block away. The Broiler has gone so far down hill from the nice corner restaurant we used to love.

Wow, been coming here for awhile but been away for a bit, menu changed. Went in last night had a waitress with dark hair and tattoos on her arms, after sitting down we were immediately met with attitude. Now, I’m not talking a little sass, I mean a complete snot! Walked away while we were asking questions about the new menu, got annoyed with the kids ordering and scowled at them, never offered their free drinks, and snapped at my wife. Absolutely awful. Just lost a loyal customer. Will never recommend and I will go out of my way to let anyone even looking for a place to eat to never go here.

When we first arrived, our hostess took us to our table wordlessly – – she literally did not say one word or introduce herself. Our waitress came by and didn’t introduce herself, and the way she spoke to us made it seem like we were a burden to her or her schedule, even though we were in a nearly empty restaurant. The omelet was alright, coffee was awful. The waitress never checked back except when she brought us the check and never offered a refill for coffee.

All in all, this was a terrible experience. We went here in past years and it was great, maybe it’s new management. It needs a deep cleaning, actual customer service, and seems to have lost what made it a bright place is previous years.

Won’t be going back.

Waitress terrific. Disappointed with Rudolph’s ribs, have had them numerous times before at the broiler, but last visit they were off – meat dry, odd taste. I hope management reads this, next visit if I get ribs of this quality they will be returned.

Malt was good, prices seemed a tad higher than expected.

As someone who used to go to this restaurant a lot, it’s sad to see how poor the service and food has gotten. I order a cheeseburger with tots and a Coke. The burger came with a bun, the meat and cheese. No condiments were offered when I ordered and then when I asked for some I had to pay a $1.50 for lettuce and tomatoes, the guy forgot the pickle and the mustard. The burger itself was OK but I could tell that the burger meat was bought pre-made. I expected more for almost a $17.00 meal.

Very disappointed in the recent “changes” at the broiler. I’ve been coming here for the past 5 years and something has changed for the worst in the last few months. I loved this place for it’s causal atmosphere and classic comfort foods. After a long day in the sun we were very excited to head to the broiler for some of our absolute favorites. We found ourselves stunned that some of our favorites had been removed from the menu. Still feeling positive about our beloved broiler we still ordered dinner. I ordered the corned beef and hash despite the steep price tag of $11.95. The description said “served with 2 poached eggs” when our server asked how I would like my eggs I requested poached. The server informed me they don’t do poached but could do basted. Not a huge difference between the two methods except when the eggs came out fried not basted. My toast was burned and the portion was not as hearty as the price tag promised. The new addition of cloth napkins and over priced cheap wine does nothing for the broiler. All this attempts to make the broiler into something other than a neighborhood classic are very disappointing. I would recommend investing in a bathroom remodel and bringing back the old menu.
