Can’t beat the 50 cent corndog special! Update: Got the Bacon on Bacon Double Quarter Pound Cheeseburger. It was surprisingly good. There was truly a double amount of bacon on the burger. The two burger patties were not greasy, but were small. So their size made the amount of bacon even seem greater. All in all a tasty burger. Update: Got the Coney Chili Hotdog with added diced onions, and the Jumbo Popcorn Chicken. The hotdog was very good. The chicken was overly breaded with almost 50% breading. Update: Got the footlong coney hotdogs. They were good. Update: Got two 99¢ corn dogs with honey mustard. They were good. Update: Got a sonic quarter pound burger. It was good. Update: Got a double smasher. It was a fair size, but a bit overcooked. It was ok. Update: Got 2 corn dogs. They were good. Update: Got a classic cheeseburger and a pretzel twist. Both were good. Update: Got a footling Coney dog. It was good. Update: Got a bacon double cheeseburger and a honey chipotle chicken sandwich. Both were good. Update: Got a Sonic Cheeseburger and Salted Caramel Toffee Croissant Bites. Both were good. Update: Got a Chili Cheese Coney dog. It was good.

First time here and didn’t like waiting 10+ minutes for someone take my order off the stupid intercom. How less personal can Sonic get? The drive-up stations…sure makes sense, but the walk up area should have a real person come out and greet, take order on a tablet device. Chili dog super salty, double cheeseburger wasn’t too bad and the small strawberry shake with thick and flavorful…best I’ve had compared to InNOut or other fast food spots. Place was clean. I’d go back for a cheeseburger and shake.

Super bummed out. Just left and ordered a Cherry slush. He hands it to me while he charges me. It was pink and white which was odd. I take a sip and its basically ice. I get these all the time so I ask the guy charging me if he can add more syrup so it actually tastes good. I watch him takes someone’s order while holding my drink after telling of course. Then without adding any syrup hands me back my slush of ice no extra syrup acting like he added it. I knew he hadnt as the syrup was in your eyes view that he never went over too. Not to mention it still tasted like nasty crushed iced with a slight cherry flavor. I threw it away it was so gross. Don’t go to this location what a waste of money and horrible service.

Sonic is a lower-tier fast-food spot, that much is clear. I got a cheeseburger and pickle fries tonight. They were all right—nothing stood out, but things were cooked well and were warm. Pretty mid food when you’re praising temperature. I think Sonic is really best for their specialty slushees and shakes, the food is pretty mediocre. Staff is nice and service is fine. They have a huge parking lot with tons of space and drive-up ordering spots.

Food: 4.5/5
Service and Setting: 3/5
Value: 3/5

Are there any San Diego locals who remember the mid-2000s when they would blast Sonic commercials all the time with no Sonics to be found for miles? I have carried that resentment with me for many years. Though I have tried Sonic at this location a handful of times, I’ve never taken the time to write a proper review. While I cannot speak about the interior of the restaurant, the service I have received in the drive-in parking spot has been good. On some days, it has been admittedly slow, but not as bad as a busy drive-thru. The drive-in parking spots are nice and wide as well as angled, so even the worst drivers can park here with ease. The servers have all been very nice and seemed happy while bringing out the food. I’ve always ordered through the app to make sure that I was able to use any coupons or promotions going on and that has been very smooth as well.

Chili Cheese Fries: 4/5
Not much to say about this guy. The fries were cooked perfectly, rivaling McDonald’s on their best days, with fresh-tasting chili and mild cheese. I want to say that their chili tastes a little less muted and flavorful than Wienerschnitzel and the overall quality is better. It was honestly a home run.

Footlong Quarter Pound Coney: 5/5
Maybe my cravings were too powerful, but dang, this chili cheese dog hit like no other. I am very very very particular about hotdogs. I do not like them grilled, too salty, too mushy, etc I especially do not like Costco hotdogs (I am prepared to die on this hill). Sonic did an amazing job. The sausage itself was snappy, lightly smokey, not overly salty, and had a mellow flavor. The chili and cheese were also mild but enhanced the savory flavor of the hot dog. This tastes like a step up from Wienerschnitzel in terms of quality and taste. I will be back for this glizzy without shame.

Pickle Fries: 2.5/5
These were probably the least delicious thing I ate today at Sonic. Straight out of the bag, there was a very strong pickle smell. The shapes ranged from little nubs to more generous strands. Overall, it was a very simply dredged and fried pickle, very similar to fried zucchini that you can get from other restaurants. The most disappointing part was that they were extremely soggy, even straight out of the fryer. I don’t think it is worth giving this a try.

Soft Pretzel Twist: 4/5
Soft pretzels are delicious, but are they more delicious once fried? Sort of. This deep-fried pretzel has the aroma of a freshly baked pastry with the savory crust of a fried item. It was gently salted and had a warm pillowy center. While I did enjoy it, I felt that the oil took away from the experience of enjoying it as a pretzel. This is a convoluted way of saying that I would prefer a freshly baked pretzel over a fried one, but this was good. It comes with cheese sauce that was a little too funky and oddly sour that I personally did not enjoy. Make sure to eat this quick! As soon as it cools down, it begins to turn into a rock.

Pickle Juice Slush: 4.5/5
Seeing this on TikTok, I knew that I had to grab it before they took it away. With its nuclear green color looking like it would melt its styrofoam container, this pickle juice slush hit hard. The taste of kosher pickle was strong without the spices. Vinegar and the aroma of pickled cucumbers smack your taste buds while notes of dill and other pickling spices linger very faintly in the back. The drink is sweet and definitely reads as a dessert while also having a considerable amount of salt, almost like a Gatorade on steroids. With all of that said, I found the drink by itself to be a little too sweet, sour, and salty, but drinking it after a bite of food was amazing. Cold and refreshing, it helps reset your palate while enhancing your hotdog, fried goodies, or burger. This is the condiment I never knew I needed and I hope that they keep it on forever. If you like pickles or even if you can tolerate them, I would definitely recommend. Also, a medium is more than enough.

A friend of mine told me that Sonic has a lot drink options. It’s true and better accessed through the app than by the menu at the restaurant. I was able to view more of the options this way and could order in advance so it was ready when I arrived. Food has been ok, the fries have been our favorite along with the ice cream blasts and this frozen concoction pictured.

I’m not making any accusations, but I gave them a credit card that I haven’t used in months when I went through the drive-through and all of a sudden I’m getting charges from DoorDash randomly and I never use that card ever that was the only time and maybe a year so when I went, they claimed the Apple Pay was down And I was forced to give them a hard card. Just be careful. Don’t know if it’s this place but I’m pretty sure because it’s the only charge on my card in a year (I have other cards I use daily) so I decided to give him this one because I don’t use it occasionally and my intuition was right. . . If management is reading, maybe look at cameras and see if this actually did happen.

Worst fast food experience in the SD area in the past 7 yrs. No more face-to-face human ordering inside, loud music so the talking through the mic and hearing response sucks, staff who kept removing items from order.

Then abt 20 min during non-busy time to get uncooked, bland food. I asked for napkins. Oh they’re in the bag. I look and there’s one bloody napkin. Untoasted bun, undercooked dog, bland chil, bland tots. Poorly trained, unempathatic staff.

I didn’t go often, but the food used to be much much better. Will never be going to Sonic again. In fairness, most fast food in the San Diego area has severely declined while prices have spiked.

Waited 10 minutes at the drive thu and then my chicken sandwich was not cooked in the middle. Usually the food isn’t like this and my kid and I enjoy sitting there but the drive thru today was just an awful experience. I was halfway home when I noticed the uncooked chicken so I didn’t turn around. Took a picture and threw it in the trash.
