I walked into Sushi-Ya expecting the usual “airport neighbourhood special,” which is typically code for it exists and that’s the compliment.
Instead, this place actually tried — and shockingly, succeeded.
We kicked off with the miso soup, which came out looking extra fluffy, like it just woke up from a nap and still pulled it together. Warm, comforting, totally doing its job. Zero notes.
Then the seaweed salad arrived — and honestly? This thing came dressed like it had a brunch reservation after.
Nice crunch, a shrimp tossed on top for moral support, a lemon slice for vibes.
Healthy, fresh, and not punishing me for making a responsible choice.
The tofu starter though?
Absolutely the star of the opening act.
Crispy outside, soft inside, covered in a spicy-sweet sauce like it’s trying to flirt.
The onions were dramatically scattered on top like someone said, “Make it fashion.”
It worked.
Then came the sushi and sashimi platter — good portions, fresh enough, nothing to complain about.
Not the “I’ve ascended to another plane of existence” level, but solid, reliable, and satisfying.
The kind of sushi that says, “I’m doing my best,” and honestly? I appreciate that energy.
Overall:
This place doesn’t pretend to be a Michelin temple — and that’s its charm.
Good sushi, great starters, big portions, no nonsense.
For an airport-area gem, it punches comfortably above its weight class.
I’d come back. Happily. No flight required.
Our favourites are the seafood and salmon teriyaki, along with their great variety of sushi, all fresh and beautifully prepared.
Service is consistently excellent – attentive, welcoming and thoughtful. A lovely touch is the warm towels provided as soon as you’re seated, which instantly makes you feel at home.
A hidden gem near the airport that we keep coming back to.
I personally really enjoyed deluxe sushi & maki dinner plate – the fish was very fresh and the presentation was gorgeous. Good miso soup/salad.
Will definitely be back and recommend this spot to others!
The servers and chefs are kind as well.
The parking lot is a bit cramped, but I’ve never had any real issues (just have to be careful when maneuvering to park). One of the better Japanese restaurants in the area.
