Truly a gem. It was high stakes taking the brewhouse and turning into something else, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Oir waitress was WONDERFUL and adored our 3 month old baby. We enjoyed our valentines dinner so much that all I could take a picture of was our appetizer, the lobster chowder. 2 full lobster claws in a small bowl, exploding with rich, bountiful flavor and comfort.
I had the “marry me chicken” and boy does that name suit it well, you’ll be married to your fork for this dish! The chicken was fall-apart tender, the sauce was light but robust with tomato and the basil micro greens gave a wonderful crisp, spicy, floral aroma to the dish. All lying on a bed of the softest garlic mash I’ve ever had!
My fiancé had the burger which came with grilled onions (perfectly caramelized) chocolate stout beer cheese, black garlic mayonnaise, on a nice wagyu patty! I only had one bite, which was wonderful! My fiancé loved it!
We finished our night off there with a slice of some seriously world class carrot cake. Multiple layers of thin carrot cake and vanilla bean, orange, cream cheese frosting. We will most definitely be visiting again, and hope to make a tradition out of valentines with these wonderful folks for the foreseeable future.

We enjoyed our meal at Black Barn. The staff were pretty busy when we arrived. We had a reservation and we were seated right away but the only indoor tables available were in the bar which was fine. The bar was a bit dark and I think next time I would want to try sitting outdoors as the grounds are very nice. We ordered the shepherd’s pie, the OG pasta and the Mexican chocolate cake. The shepherd’s pie was fine, good but a little underwhelming. The pasta is made in house and it was delicious and the cake was fantastic. I would like to come back and try more menu items. The staff were busy when we arrived and very distracted but still attentive and pleasant. We walked around the grounds after our meal and enjoyed the pleasant evening.

First time eating here and it was wonderful. Had a DELICIOUS grilled chicken sandwich called the Mama! It was loaded with chicken, cheese, mushrooms and yellow & red bell peppers on a soft roll with potato salad. We had them leave off the garlic and add mayonnaise. Best sandwich I’ve had in a long time. We ate outside, food & drinks are served at your table but you bus your own table. No problem. Enjoyed every bite and minute of this restaurant.

Ordered fried chicken with oven roasted vegetables and mashed potatoes. Was served charred carrots, and a single breast filet with soggy breading on the bottom and and burned in the top. The mashed potatoes were good, but the rest of the meal was mediocre. And for $27! Not impressed.

Cute and historic atmosphere, servers were nice and friendly but wait was long for food.

This is a fairly new spot in Jacksonville. It’s lovely! The school hall is full of energy as is the grounds. The owners wife painted the the art on the walls! It’s beautiful! Food was delicious and although the service was struggling to keep up, they treated us very well! I highly recommend a visit! We will be back again. Look forward to seeing your growth.

Ate here on front deck once as a couple. Liked it so much that we returned a couple months later with friends for an indoor dining experience to celebrate a birthday. I am not easily impressed at all when it comes to restaurants in general. Black Barn exceeded our expectations both times with great food, fun environment and service with personality.

We had a grand time! I’d been wanting to try this place since I met the owner a while ago at Cherry Street Meats in Medford. We finally had time to check it out; I had high expectations and they were exceeded all the way. Service A+, food quality the same. The atmosphere is great it’s like it was before with a few changes which is cool.

We ordered a variety of things to share, appetizers, salad and a main. We chose the “special of the day” which was the Philly Cheese on their homemade roll. They’ll be opening a deli soon and are presenting various sandwiches as the daily specials. Everything was delicious and served fresh from the kitchen. The owner is super nice and we can’t wait to return for another meal.

Last note, I had looked up the hours, brunch from 10:00-2:00 on the weekends and dinner from 3:00-9:00. We showed up about 2:40 as I didn’t understand they take a (food prep) break from 2:00-3:00. However, they were happy to accommodate and sat us in the bar, we grabbed a couple nice beers and the food arrived promptly.
I highly recommend checking out this restaurant/bar!

Lovely atmosphere and great food, but the staff seemed completely disorganized and the wait times were long—even with a reservation. It feels like the restaurant needs additional staff and perhaps a single, well-trained person managing the front instead of two people working without clear coordination. Some proper training on how to run the front of the restaurant would make a big difference.

At one point, I even heard the person managing the front say, “Okay… so who was next?” which really shouldn’t happen. There should be a clear, organized list so guests aren’t overlooked. I watched a family of six wait over 45 minutes to be seated simply because they were forgotten. Oh, and they had made a reservation!

Highlighting the positives: service improved significantly with our exceptional waiter. Our order was taken efficiently, and the food arrived promptly—hot and delicious.

We were really looking forward to trying Black Barn Farm Kitchen last night, especially since our daughter was home from college and we had heard wonderful things about the restaurant. When we arrived, we were greeted warmly, and the atmosphere was lovely—exactly what we had hoped for.

Unfortunately, the experience that followed was disappointing. I’m vegetarian and had been excited to try the eggplant parmesan, but was informed they were out for the evening. That was understandable, so I ordered the butternut squash soup instead. Our daughter ordered a small soup along with a smash burger.

When the soup arrived, it was beautifully presented with a swirl of cream and sauce on top, but it was not even warm—almost as if it had been sitting out. We let the food runner know, and our waitress soon came over to tell us that the chefs said it would take quite a while to heat the soup up. This confused us, as it left us wondering why it was served cold in the first place. We asked to have it removed from the bill.

Shortly after, the food runner brought out the bread that was supposed to accompany the soups and set it on the table. As she began to walk away, she asked whether we were still getting soup. When we told her no, she picked up both plates of bread and took them away. That interaction felt awkward and uncomfortable.

A bit later, our server returned and said the chefs could warm the soup “quicker” if we’d still like it—directly contradicting the earlier statement that it would take quite a while. At that point, we declined. I decided I just would pass on dinner tonight.

Our daughter got a smash burger. The presentation was extremely disappointing, and the bun didn’t even fit the patty. As much as we wanted to enjoy our meal, it felt like there wasn’t much attention or care given to our overall experience and the food was disappointing.

I had been telling everyone how excited I was to try this place, which makes it even more disappointing to say that we won’t be returning and do not recommend it.

[Shared review post with Rogue Ales Patio at the Schoolhouse]

This is such a cool spot at historic schoolhouse nestled in the neighborhood of Jville! Patio was so comfortable with water misters and trees providing shade, with plenty of umbrellas. Dog friendly patio, with water and bowls for pups and awesome touch. Stopped in for lunch, enjoyed the farm burger and blues burger with stuffed artichoke appetizer. My personal favorite was the blues burger, the garlic aioli and onion bacon jam was perfect balance of sweet and savory. I was excited they offered non alcoholic Athletic brew , and my friend really loved Rogue Ales Dead Guy Pale Ale. The brews really complimented the burgers. Every staff member was attentive, friendly, personable and professional. A very welcoming relaxing environment. 100% recommend as a go-to kickback spot, or lunch with friends and family.
