We made reservations through OpenTable so there was no weight. Liz seated us and warmly congratulated Dad on his 94th birthday. She set a wonderful tone for our whole dinner experience.
Dad’s favorite dishes here are the Mongolian Beef and Dan Dan Noodles ($17) — the latter being their version is like the Korean comfort food Jja Jiang Myun — which involves black bean sauce and noodles. Deliciousness.
Parents preferred hot water over cold per Asian health protocols and a kettle for two was brought out to accommodate. We also ordered the quail eggs over shumai as well as the oxtail soup (6 for $19) The oxtail soup came in a dark soy sauce soup base ($24) The flavors were all very complementary. The only slight disappointment was there were very few pieces of meat in the Mongolian Beef this time. It’s presented as a dish for sharing and in past years has sufficed as such, but this time it really came across as a one person serving. We ordered extra rice and a mango pudding came out with a candle so we could sing happy birthday to dad and let him make a wish.
Truly excellent service by Liz, who is attentive to the fact that we had two very elderly seniors at the table, and thanks to Alan and Oscar and (we think her name was) Jocelyn.
Dinner for three of us was $90 before tip.
We sat at the bar and shared several dishes. The menu features small plates, but they are generous enough for two people to share comfortably.
We tried the dim sum with quail egg, pork ribs, braised pork belly sandwich, tuna ceviche, a noodle dish, and the cucumber salad. Everything was well-seasoned and full of flavor.
Our server was pleasant and attentive.
We went for dinner and utilized the Chase Sapphire reserve dining credits included in their Edit hotel stay. We billed it to the room instead of paying with the Chase credit card, worked out fine for using the credits.
We tried the tasting menu, one vegetarian (no meat, no fish, no eggs) and one regular, priced at $60 each. They had 8-9 courses for each menu with a vegetarian substitute for some courses. The vegetarian menu items were equally good. There was one equivalent dish lacking which the chef complimented with something out of the menu. One dish was Mexican, the other Chinese and so on. Attentive and friendly service, the server answered questions related to the ingredients and relayed us the cooking process from the chef for a few dishes. It took us 2+hours to finish. The initial courses were small while the end ones were more fulfilling.
We went for lunch the next day and ordered some other dishes, they were delicious as well. They had many affordable dishes between 10-15 each as opposed to the other nearby restaurants.
My husband and I tried a range of dishes and everything was delicious. My personal favorite was the cold noodle salad and the traditional dumplings with poached quail egg on top.
The drink selection is also stellar – great cocktails and wines. Vibes are super cute and service was also prompt and attentive throughout!
The fish taco was amazing, thick fish portion, not too oily, but wish there were more tomatoes and onions.
Avoid these IMO:
The cactus taco was disappointing. The chef paired the cactus with tofu. Imagine 2 mushy textures together the whole thing fell apart. The soft taco wrap should have been a hard shell in my opinion.
The crispy beef tendon and oysters taco was disappointing too. The crispy beef tendon was crazy salty, but the taco has NO other ingredients except for 1 raw oyster to combat that. Maybe add some fresh ingredients, like cilantro, onions, or other greens? It was such a boring taco and only 1 bite included the raw oyster. It was not good.
We did enjoy our cold noodle salad, and the employees here seem to enjoy their job.
Highly recommend this restaurant!
