J Huston Tavern is steeped in history. You should make the time to become aquainted with the town of Arrow Rock, the fine folks here and The J Huston Tavern. Spend time, decompress and have a memorable meal of wonderful food and drink. Great job to the staff and ownership of J Huston Tavern. Well done. KUDOS!!!

The new chef and management team have totally revamped this charming restaurant, everything from the food to the aesthetics! The menu offers a diverse set of intentional dishes, everyone loved their dinners! The mushroom pappardelle was phenomenal. Full bar, with fun seasonal cocktails. On buffet days (Theater days and holidays) the food is much improved from previous years— much more fresh and flavorful!

Good buffet. Fried chicken and cranberry ham were very good. Green beans had a different taste but were very delicious. Salad was fresh as was the fruit salad. Everything looked very nice and attractive to eat. The cherry cobbler was not as good as everything else.
They gave us a table with big easy chairs for our chairs to sit in. Very comfortable but a little hard to get up and going. I think I could have sat there for some time. Staff were great. They were very friendly and efficient. Hardly any wait. Highly recommend.

We have been there twice. The first time everything was sooo delicious. Fried chicken cooked to perfection! All the sides and desserts also mouthwatering! Unfortunately for their chef, he was out the second time with an injury. We drove 90 minutes one way to eat the delicious fried chicken and to our disappointment none to be had. No wonderful variety of warm/yummy desserts either. But hope he is doing well and we will definitely come back for another try. Very reasonably priced for the quality of food.

We ate here before a show at the Lyceum Theater. The fried chicken with mashed potatoes and creamy gravy and maple glazed carrots was great. Our appetizers were delicious too. The clam chowder was tasty too! What a treat! Great place! So much history at this restaurant and in this town!

Really miss the previous owners/operators. Made reservations, but when we got there, some other customers had rearranged tables to suit themselves and we were left with a table in the middle of the buffet line. It was like sitting at a city intersection and was SO loud we couldn’t hear each other talk!!! One staff member told us we could have a corner table in the bar area that was quieter, but when we moved out stuff there, some walk-ins had taken that table. There were other vacant tables available in a quieter area, bug we were told those were for some other people that had reservations. So did we, we were there, and those other people were not! We had to go back to the original table. When we made reservations, we were not told that we could not order off the menu, there was buffet only. The buffet was nothing to brag about, and cost $32!!! When we went through the line and got to the fried chicken, there were only two very small pieces available (for 4 of us). Par for the course at this place. They did finally bring out more chicken. Buffet food again not worth $32!!! Will never eat there again. Then it took ages just to get our check so we could finally get out of there.

The place is really cool but… The chicken was very dry and it was like it had been under a light. The brisket sandwich was good and the french salad dressing was great! I am glad I went there once but will probably not go back. The town is worth a visit and eating here is worth the cost but it just won’t nock your socks off. The menu is small. The potato’s we’re good.

Fun atmosphere with lots of history. The chicken is yummy. Not a fan of the gravy. They close really early. They had no soda. They are gearing up for the summer.

Enjoyed a lovely dinner at the J. Tasty food, very friendly service and a place steeped in history. A thousand stories could be told here. If only these walls could talk.
