Had high hopes for Nest and really wanted to love it. Sadly, the food did not live up to the hype. The menu didn’t feel coherent or tell a story. There were some really weird combinations like udon noodle, birria beef and nacho cheese bites. Also beef dish came before the fish. Many key ingredients were out of season and quite tasteless. My scallop was overcooked and rubbery. The Prosecco ice lolly tasted like plain ice. The only course I enjoyed was the first dish- nested egg. Aside from the food, the venue was cold, the spotlights were very bright, and the music choice didn’t fit the mood. Service was fine but the staff were quite shy and didn’t explain the dishes aside from reading what was already on the menu. I expected more for £100pp. Wouldn’t recommend.

Great dinner at Nest again. There wasn’t a bad course, with the lamb/carrot and trout being stand outs for us. My nut allergy was very well accommodated. Very enjoyable wine pairing too, with excellent descriptions by the Nest team. Lovely relaxed service. We will definitely revisit.

Wife, daughter and mother went for the tasting menu. They all absolutely loved it and will definitely be back. Seeing as it was for a birthday celebration I asked if a little cake could be made. They couldn’t promise me but said that they’d do their best. They rang a few hours before the meal time and informed me that the chefs had alittle spare time available and that they would be able to do it which was a nice surprise. The cake was amazing!! Thanks again

Nest, on Heaton’s ever-popular Chillingham Road, forms part of a formidable group of venues including Flight, Pour Decisions and the recently closed Hide. Nest itself is a smaller capacity venue, with an informal vibe and an ever-growing reputation, even making its way into the Michelin Guide. It’s a venue we’ve frequented a few times over the years, but this time in particular we were in for their Carnival tasting menu back in July 2025 where, as is often the case at carnivals and travelling circuses, not everything was as it seemed.

Starting with cheese, guacamole and pico de galo with freshly cooked nachos, we kicked off almost deliberately not looking at the menu, so that we never knew what to expect. Swiftly followed by a filo pastry-like cigar with artichoke two-ways (both as filling and also as cigar ‘ash’). Follow-up dishes of BBQ chicken drumsticks, a beetroot and goat’s cheese-filled doughnut, we broke into the menu well, and had a solid set of drinks pairings to boot – in particular, a beetroot gimlet with the doughnut really helped to cut through the sweetness of the beetroot sugar on the bready doughnut.

I’ll let the rest of the pictures speak for themselves – by the end of the tasting menu, the belt had been loosened, and given the amount of drink consumed (particularly given some of our table had been siphoned off in Mr Two Tables’ direction), we were all suitably fed and watered, and left as a very happy bunch.

The atmosphere and service were really good. However, the food in the main was a big disappointment. The steak and cod were amazing but everything else was bang average…the tikka chicken was served so undercooked it was slimy and the “posh” beans on toast felt anything but. The toilets also need a bit of TLC – not what you’d expect at £100 pp. Gutted and wouldn’t return or recommend.

Been going to Nest for many years. Not had any disappointing experiences yet. Just had their 10 course Christmas Menu few days ago (£100), all lovely as always. Only downside is, 10 course is too much for me. Nest usually do a smaller tasting menu at cheaper price (£65-75) which fits beautifully to the amount I can eat. But, I still cannot (and won’t) penalise them just because I am a smaller eater compare to others! Would definitely go back again some time later!

A superlative restaurant on Chillingham Road. Fantastic service with a ground-up knowledge and local chefs making the most of North East cuisine.

I love the flavour, the atmosphere and the feel. If you eat here I promise you won’t be disappointed. I’ve done both full tasting menus and Sunday lunches. Booking in advance is essential and you’ll always be glad you did.

Amazing. Thank you team.

Great food and very nice decor trying to be like peace and loaf. we had lunch there using a gift voucher. no bread and took too long between each service. ok if you like a little bit of food on the plate I would prefer to pay a little bit more for the full experience

Visted for the first time. A nice casual atmosphere and greeted and taken to seat by very polite and friendly staff.
Having looked forward to this for a few weeks, we weren’t disappointed with each course bursting with flavours. Nice wines and very relaxed and enjoyable dinning experience . Can’t wait to go back . Thanks to all staff , both front and back

Waited 3 months for this Sunday dinner and it was fab. Shared both a fish cake and chicken starter. Tandoori chicken was to die for! Main was delicious, only slight issue was the beef was tough in parts. My partners lamb fell apart. Dessert is probably one of the best I’ve ever had!

Lady who served was attentive and very friendly.

Would love to try the tasting menu one day.
