Everything we ordered was excellent. The food was fresh, beautifully prepared, and full of flavor. The coffee, in particular, stood out—rich and well made, which is always appreciated.
Our server, Alex, was exceptional. I was especially impressed by her deep knowledge of the different fish offerings. Being able to personally select your own fish and have it prepared to order is a wonderful touch—it immediately brought back memories of doing the same in Italy. The octopus and fish we chose were both outstanding, perfectly cooked and seasoned.
I also really loved the pasta-and-fish combination, which was both comforting and elevated. We will absolutely be returning to try another fish dish.
The server was very polite and helpful (side note: we are Greek – born and raised, and still living in Athens. So the bar is already pretty high for us, since we have experienced the real deal).
Now, to cut to the chase… The amount of money the food cost us was extremely high for the quality of food we were served. Yes, about 50% of the dishes were pretty tasty, but the rest were just not something I would order again. Highlight of the meal we’re the lambchops, which weren’t even prepared the Greek way! Lol
The location of the restaurant is definitely one of the main things you’re being charged for, but it would be nice if the food matched the ambiance/fanciness of the whole thing.
The service at Avra always feels warm and personal, but Sundays here are especially special. The staff genuinely feels like family, creating such a welcoming and lively atmosphere.
The food is consistently fresh and outstanding. Our perfect Sunday lineup: Avra chips, tuna tartare, grilled shrimp, and crab cakes to start, followed by branzino and a Greek salad to share — the ultimate meal with family and friends, paired with a Hugo Spritz.
Nick was constantly checking in, helping his staff, extending our table when needed, bringing sauces immediately — always attentive without ever being intrusive. That level of management truly elevates the entire experience.
We’ll absolutely be back next Sunday!
If you’re looking for great food and a refined dining vibe, Avra never disappoints!
There was one unpleasant moment at the beginning: despite booking in advance and specifying where we’d like to sit, we were first offered a table in the far corner of the dining room because we had our daughter with us. After I refused, we were seated near the waiters’ station, which also wasn’t ideal. Only on the third attempt did we finally get a proper table. It was clear the issue was related to the child, but she is not a 6-month-old baby who could disturb the vibe.
That said, the food and the level of service made me forget about this incident and fully enjoy the evening. In the end, we left with warm impressions and gratitude for a special night.
Really well presented and reasonable portions.
The starters are easy to share with 4 and maybe even more.
A great place to celebrate with friends.
I definitely will come again.
Reservations are a must, try to book ahead, even for lunch.
