Reviews
From the moment you step into the main dining room, you’re immersed in elegance, a beautiful, serene setting overlooking the park, elevated further by the warm glow of the fireplace that creates an inviting and refined ambiance.
The tasting menu offered both vegetarian and meat/fish options. I chose the vegetarian menu, and it was hands down the most delicious tasting menu I’ve had in a long time. Every dish was thoughtful, balanced, and impeccably executed. The mushroom pie was absolutely out of this world- a luxurious blend of exotic mushrooms, seared to perfection, rich yet incredibly refined. The Doppio Agnolotti with butternut squash emulsion and chestnut confit was a standout as well, a flawless combination of sweetness, depth, and texture.
The meat menu was equally impressive. The perfectly seared Mediterranean Lubina and the delicately cooked farmed venison showcased remarkable technique and flavor, leaving nothing to be desired.
Service elevated the experience even further. Samantha, our server, was exceptional- warm, attentive, and impressively knowledgeable about every dish, making the meal feel both personal and seamless.
Per Se is truly worthy of each and every star. A flawless culinary journey from start to finish, and an experience I will remember for a long time to come.
Per Se is synonymous with a rigorously precise, French inspired tasting menu experience. Even its shorter menus are designed to reflect the full philosophy of the kitchen rather than serve as a compromise.
Ambience
The dining room is dimly lit and serene. While we were not seated in the main dining hall, our table faced the New York skyline, which added a cinematic calm to the evening. The space felt formal yet not stiff, elegant without intimidation.
Service
Service was impeccable and precise. Staff were attentive without hovering and thoughtful without excess. The presence of a vegetarian menu executed with equal seriousness deserves special praise.
Food and drink
The four course menu was skilfully crafted and coherent from start to finish. Each plate showed restraint and clarity. The true revelation was the dessert course. It was a masterpiece of balance and whimsy, arguably the most compelling and memorable sequence of the meal. It is one of the best if not the best dessert. Kudos
Overall
Per Se proves that greatness is not dependent on length or spectacle. Even a shorter menu delivers depth, confidence and emotional payoff.
The Expert Perspective: My mother was a restaurateur in China, and even as a non-expert in French cuisine, she was shocked by the service execution. She noted that the team’s proactive attention to detail and synchronization are incredibly difficult to train—it is near flawless and justifies the prestige.
The Food: While the standard tasting menu is excellent, the culinary technicality is world-class. The flavors and presentation perfectly reflect the level of precision expected of Chef Keller. I’ve met people at luxury hotels worldwide who still talk about their proposals or milestone meals here; it’s a place for core memories.
I hope to return in the near future for the “Retrospective” menu, which features the all-star signature dishes that defined the restaurant over the last 20 years.
Admittedly, one of my favorite aspects was the very thoughtfully curated gift bag we were sent home with. What a treat to enjoy on New Year’s Day! The gift that keeps giving!
That said, the restaurant itself could use a renovation — the carpets and overall décor feel a bit outdated and don’t quite match the level of a modern fine dining restaurant. Still, the food remains absolutely fantastic.
Thank you to the team for such a memorable evening! Highly recommend.
