As we walked in I was anticipating it to be busy. One of the cooks was sitting in the dining room and we were the only people there. That was kind of concerning but I get it because students were on break. We ordered three two piece jumbo chicken and fries. Two with no spice and one hot. The gentleman taking our order was hard to understand due to his heavy Indian accent. As we waited in the small dining area it was almost like the guy cooking and the guy at the cash register was arguing about something. Me and my wife kept looking at each other like “what’s going on” it was almost like Hell’s Kitchen when Gordon was yelling at his staff. Well it wasn’t that bad but it was a little uncomfortable.
Anyways we received out food in to go boxes which was confusing because we told then we were dining in. Everything is deep fried. The fries were just ok and the chicken was dry as expected because of it being deep fried. The hot seasoning was really hot but it wasnt a good hot, hardly any flavor. It’s like habanero was just sprinkled onto the chicken. The sauce they give you is minuscule and you would need 4x the amount in my opinion. The sauce is nothing like Dave’s or Canes it’s almost like a pepper mayonnaise base.
All in all the food was ok at best. It’s definitely overpriced because of the location. I wouldn’t go back but if you like deep fried chicken and downtown Ann Arbor definitely go check it out.

I ordered “The Suga Momma” with the spice level “Too Damn Hot”. It was flavorful AND too hot. Definitely a nose runner so be warned
My partner ordered “The Mac Daddy” with the spice level “Mild”. Only words I could get out of him was ‘juicy’ and ‘delicious’ and this was after the 5 minutes of silence as we enjoyed our food.
I will absolutely be coming back.
A couple of years ago, we tried Fat Daddy’s HOT Chicken & Waffles at another location in the state and had a great experience (5 stars), so we were excited to try their secondary location in downtown Ann Arbor. Unfortunately, we were completely disappointed on all levels.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by a dirty, unkempt restaurant. The temperature inside was that of a hot, sweaty kitchen—clearly, the air conditioner wasn’t working. One of my party members went to use the restroom and came back to inform the staff (who spoke zero English) that it needed extreme attention and had no toilet paper. The staff member simply shrugged and said, “I don’t know,” and carried on.
The ordering process was confusing. We were greeted and asked if we needed help, but then directed to a kiosk to place our order. Despite being the only people in the restaurant and ordering very minimal items (a two-piece tender and one large smothered fries with chicken), it took 25 minutes to get our food.
If you’re thinking about hot chicken, this is not the place. I chose the “hottest” (2nd to the last) option, and it was neither hot nor flavorful. One side was coated, while the other side was bare. We didn’t finish our food and instead waited for the next chicken place down the road to open.
While I wish this location the best of luck, the company seriously needs to step in and handle their quality control on every level. If they don’t, they’ll be in serious trouble, and this restaurant could come to a complete halt as their image slowly diminishes. I can’t say I’ll be back to this location ever, though I will go to their original location.
