Rodney and Vinny use this business as a way to take care of the community as well. They support other local vendors, they take care of people when they walk through the doors, they grew up right down the hill and they care. I’m a customer for life because the food is great but the people are better.
Anyone competent and with at least one brain cell knows that you can’t bring your own food into a restaurant due to health codes and liabilities. Take your picky kids somewhere else or feed them before you go out.
ANYWAYS. This was my first time here and it was absolutely phenomenal. The prices were reasonable, our food came out fast & we were met with plenty of smiles in a welcoming atmosphere. They have great selections of beers and have trivia every Monday! Before we left my fiance had already texted our friends about coming here for a double date, I texted my trivia group about hitting this place up and we will be bringing my dad here for dinner this week!
That’s what it’s all about. Show the businesses that surround you some love
I would like to tell you about my most recent experience and I would like to also prompt this with I don’t usually leave reviews. I had traveled to Monday’s this past Friday with my daughter to get some great food and good drinks. When we got there, it was extremely busy especially at Smashed and Fried. When we made it up to order our food, we found out that the owner and one other staff were the only staff working. They explained that they had two call offs for the evening and this was during Lent. I was completely amazed by how these two staff members held themselves together, focused on the customers and provided great service despite being the only ones working. I can’t stress enough how busy they were. They never stopped working and had our food out in a very reasonable time. Our food was delicious as it always is!
My daughter then explained to me about a few negative reviews that were left and I was dumbfounded. It is a constant battle for me to decide which one of their delicious food selections I want to choose every time I go there. I have never had anything even remotely bad. They have a great selection to order from so you can’t lose no matter what you choose. I will say that their smash burger is the best in Pittsburgh! If you are trying them for the first time, the burger is a must!! I have even taken food home because I couldn’t decide.
We will continue to be patrons of Smashed and Fried not just for their food (which is very important) but because the staff/owner are respectable, hard working people who take pride in their business. My review will never do them enough justice , in my opinion. Keep it up guys! You do an amazing job and should be proud of yourselves!
On a side note, I am of Polish descent and had an aunt who made the best haluski. During my last visit, I tried their haluski and I didn’t think it was possible but—-I loved their Haluski more than my aunts! However, it’s only offered during Lent on Fridays. Make sure to get out there and try it!!!!
Quality of the burger is a tad bit lower than your average burger, nothing special. The edges on the patties are super crispy where they are almost burnt.. once you clear that and get to the bun area, it’s get better. Very basic burger and fries cost roughly $18 no drink. Burger doesn’t even have lettuce tomato pickles etc… just caramelized onions and their sauce. Shrimp basket was alright.
Place didn’t have napkins during our visit so kitchen cooker had to give me a small amount of paper towel roll cut up. Not super friendly, or customer service oriented place.
It was so good! The batter had a nice crunch and the fish was a good thickness (for me). The fries were really good, crispy and nicely seasoned no ketchup needed. I saved my burger for later. I could have eaten it cold but I did warm it up. I was not disappointed, it was delicious.
Both Items 10/10. The staff was friendly. It was a very pleasant experience
