Parson’s Chicken & Fish (Logan Square)

  4.5 – 2,326 reviews   • Chicken restaurant

Social Profile:

Located in Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood, on the beautiful Humboldt Boulevard, Parson’s Chicken & Fish enthusiastically celebrates and embraces drinking, eating, and general good times. Another project from Land and Sea Dept., Parson’s Chicken & Fish affectionately references the chicken and fish eateries prevalent to the West Side of Chicago, and found in cities, coasts and regions across the country – the sorts of places that offer affordable eats quickly, satisfying big appetites. Working against larger culinary trends, we’re intent on demonstrating that drinking and eating can be done using judicious, locally sourced and quality ingredients, but also affordably and quickly, in a (super) fun atmosphere.

Low-key fried chicken & fish stop with hip tunes dishing up cocktails, salads, sandwiches & sushi.

The hard part about Parsons is do you get the fish or the chicken as they are both excellent! Their chicken is a perfect blend of not too much breading while also having a great crunch to it and I appreciate that they use a chicken thigh for the sandwich. Their fish is done quite well as the crust stays on nicely and is not too greasy. Don’t sleep on their hush puppies and drinks, especially the frozen negroni. They are both popular for a reason, which is that they are both excellent.

Overall Review:

NESTLED IN LOGAN SQUARE AREA OF CHICAGO. PARSON’S SPACE IS OPEN AND WELCOMING WITH BOOTH, BAR AND OUTSIDE BACKYARD PATIO TABLE SEATING.

FOOD/TASTE=

3 Piece Fish>A
$10.00
Fresh Pollock, Beer Batter, Tartar Sauce, Lemon. WE’RE WORTH IT. THE BATTER ON THE FISH WAS CRISPY AND CRUNCH WITH JUST THE RITE SEASONING. THE FISH WAS FIRM TO THE BITE, YET MOIST AND FLAVORFUL. AND THE TARTAR SAUCE WAS TOP NOTCH.

Ranch Fries>A
$7.00
Crispy Fries with Kosher Salt, House Ranch Powder, and Parmesan Served with Choice of Dipping Sauce. THE FRIES WERE SEASONED TO PERFECTION WITH A SIMPLE RANCH SEASONING DUST THAT BROUGHT A BALANCED OF SAVORY AND TANGY FROM THE SEASONING.

Parson Banana Pudding>A
Vanilla wafers and custard with a nice rich banana jam, topped with whipped cream. DIFFERENT, YET DELICIOUS.

ATMOSPHERE = > A

OVERALL ITS TWIST ON THE WEST SIDE AND SOUTH NEIGHBORHOOD
CHICKEN AND FISH EATERIES BUT WITH A UBRAN HIPSTER TWIST AND NO COUNTER SERVICE. THE MUSIC SELECTION VERY REMINISCENT OF CLASSIC SOUL, E.G. DURALACH, BARLETT STRONG, BILLY SHA RAE, ETC.

SERVICE = ABC

SET THE BAR WITH A YOUNG HIPSTER SERVER- BARTENDER WHO WAS VERY PERSONABLE AND COOL AND LAID BACK PERSONALITY.

Returning:

DEFINITELY

I stopped by Parson’s Chicken & Fish after hearing a few friends talk about it, and I finally get the hype. I ordered the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich.

The chicken thigh was fried perfectly super juicy and tender inside, with this nice crisp on the outside. It was tossed in their Nashville hot sauce, which had just the right amount of heat for me. Spicy, but not the kind of spicy that ruins your taste buds. The coleslaw added this crunchy, cool contrast, and the American cheese melted just right. I don’t usually order cheese on a spicy chicken sandwich, but this one worked. The pickles were super tangy, which I loved, and the garlic mayo and Parson’s red hot sauce added even more layers of flavor. All of it came together on a soft brioche bun that held up without getting soggy.

The vibe at Parson’s was super chill, kind of retro picnic-style with a mix of families, couples, and dogs. Service was friendly, but not overly attentive, which was fine by me. I waited about 20 minutes for my food, which felt reasonable since it was a bit busy.

I was pretty disappointed with the food here. I had the Parson’s fried chicken sandwich ($12), fish sandwich ($14), and shrimp basket ($14) that comes with 8 fried gulf shrimps, cocktail sauce, lemon, and French fried.

The sandwiches were a bit salty and one-dimensional. The shrimps were the butterfly shrimp that you can get at the grocery store. The fries had a good texture though.

The service was alright. It gets pretty busy but it took a long while until we got to order.

I won’t be coming back unfortunately.

I’m honestly sad to be writing this. Parsons (Logan Square) used to be one of our favorite spots. It wasn’t just another restaurant to us. I even chose Parsons as my lunch spot after I was sworn in as an attorney instead of going somewhere fancy, because during bar prep it was my comfort place. But the last three times we’ve come, we’ve been disappointed.

Two weeks ago when we dined in, our food came out in less than two minutes. When we commented on how fast it was, the server joked, “Yeah, we’re fast.” But I’m not looking for fast. If I wanted fast, I’d go to McDonald’s. I come to Parsons for quality. The food was cold. The fries were cold and clearly not fresh.

Last night was even more frustrating. We ordered about $200 worth of food for pickup, and every single person was disappointed. The food was cold as if it had been sitting out for hours. What’s confusing is that when my husband arrived, they told him the order wasn’t ready yet. Were we were was literally two minutes away. So how was everything, especially the fries, already cold?

It’s incredibly disappointing because we genuinely loved this place. But after three bad experiences in a row, it feels like something has changed — and not for the better.

Sadly, you’ve lost us as customers. I truly hope this feedback is taken seriously, because Parsons used to be special to us.

We were going to go to Harolds but this place had better reviews. Very fast service. What i really loved was their tartar sauce. It reminded me of McDonald’s but a zillion times better

First time here. Chicken and fish were liked by everyone who ordered them, and I enjoyed the veggie sandwich. I’m not a vegetarian anymore but it sounded delicious – and it was.

Our group had a selection of items from the menu and mostly enjoyed everything. A couple of people weren’t crazy about the coleslaw (had an unexpected flavor they didn’t liked) but others thought it was good. Good calamari.

Fries were typical. The peach pastry dessert was disappointing. Didn’t love the pickle soda but it was memorable!

Overall we enjoyed our meal.

I hadn’t been to Parsons in years, and this was my first time at the Logan location. Honestly was really impressed! If you want some good fried food and a fun atmosphere, this is the spot. Usually not a slaw guy on a chicken sandwich but theirs hit the spot and wasn’t overbearing. It’s a great spot for a larger crowd too, and there’s something for everyone on the menu. Definitely good to check out!

Good food that would’ve been great if the temperature was consistent. Fried fish was tasty, but 2 of the 3 pieces were room temperature while the 3rd was fresh. The hot chicken sandwich was great. Fries were good.

Service was abysmal. Server took our order then we never saw her again until our food was long gone and we had been waiting on refills of water. Our dishes were even cleared by another member of staff minutes before she realized she had a table to take care of. It wasn’t very busy, she was just vacuous.

My girlfriend and I stopped by Parsons on a sunny Saturday afternoon looking for a quick bite, and we were drawn in by the solid reviews. We each ordered the Nashville hot two-piece chicken, which came with incredibly juicy and crispy pickles. We also shared the cod and shrimp combo—both were perfectly crispy and packed with flavor. I especially enjoyed the cod; the light batter let the flavor of the fish really shine through. While the chicken was a bit spicier than I prefer, the portion size was generous and satisfying. Overall, a great spot for tasty, well-prepared comfort food.
