Caleta Portales Restaurant it an extremely amazingly surprise, a good one, for everyone who’s enjoying a genuine local chilian food. If you are looking for the best experience in this area, do not hesitate a bit to choose this place for your lunch or dinner. The atmosphere is very cozy, special and particularly dedicated to fisherman’s design. Everything is matching perfectly in details, as well an spectacular view from above. The personal is very warm and kind with its clients, absolutely nothing to complain about anything regarding the service. Fast and demanding for everyone and everything, at least this was my perspective during my visit there.
The fact that almost all the tables were busy during the meal time, means the success of it.
Dishes extremely fresh and very tasty, obviously because the location just nearby fish market and this makes the things easier for the management of the staff.
The balance between quality and money is unbeatable.
Highly recommended for exquisite travellers in Chile.

Food is terrible in taste in my opinion. Machas a la parmesana is typically baked with cheese yes but the clam’s meat is too rubbery. The jubia grande (large crab cake) I’ve ordered is disappointing in taste as I’ve tasted better ones in Santiago. The additional side rice that came has a musky smell and taste. It’s like when you keep rice in a moist or warm environment for a few days and on the verge of going bad taste. Only presentation and service are almost like fine dining. Breads are extremely warm and fresh though. Most dishes and drinks are also overdosed in salt or sugar. I think this only appeals to the local taste buds. The irony is I’ve tasted similar delicious seafood in Santiago.

I am disappointed that this restaurant didn’t live up to the expectations. We ordered a few items from the menu and 50% didn’t taste the best. Prices are extremely high for the quality of food. We ordered some mussels and they were horrible. The mussels that I buy frozen in the USA tastes better than what I was offered here. I mentioned it to them but nothing was offered to remediate the bad quality, they only said that was overcooked. I think that the mussels were not fresh but actually frozen or from a can. The French fries were soggy and oily. Fresh fries always tell me the quality of the food because it is simple to cook but it needs to follow the perfect temperature on the oil. The cold mariscal was ok. I will not be returning to that place next time I visit Chile.

Fantastic view of the beach, very attentive service and an old boat kitschy atmosphere. Great seafood selection of course.

Great place if you want great seafood, great service and great views of the ocean and Valparaiso. The waiter started us off with small pieces of fried fish “on the house” while we perused the menu. They have a short list of Peruvian-style specials on the left side of the menu, and the rest of the menu is an extensive permanent lsit of Chilean seafood favorites like caldo de congrio, machas a la parmesana, corvina, reineta, etc. The pisco sours were excellent as was all of the food. I will definitely be coming here again.

After exploring the fish market, my wife and I stopped here for lunch. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The service, the food (try the chupe de mariscos) and the view were all wonderful. If you are in the area definitely try this restaurant.

Delicious food, atmosphere and wine, a place to share a special moment. The attention is good and the view wonderful. I fell in love with the dessert, they prepare it at the table at the same time!

Excellent service, good food, beautiful view on the sea. Reasonable prices and extraordinary quality per price provided. They will openly tell you what they have as fresh or frozen products for the day if you ask. A seafood soup I ordered was not up to my standards and they changed it immediately for a different dish of fresh fish, with no questions and lots of apologies. It was a lovely experience to enjoy a meal with lots of delicious and sophisticated options. The flambé desserts available for totally normal price are a very enjoyable plus.
