We visited this restaurant, which is well-known for its American barbecue. I usually come here in the summer, but we decided to try it again — and it was absolutely worth it. The atmosphere inside was great, and the server was incredibly friendly, giving us honest and helpful recommendations. One of us even considered ordering a vegetarian dish, but the server told us — in a very honest and funny way — that vegetarian food wasn’t what they were known for, and that we’d enjoy the meat options much more. We loved the honesty.

For starters, we tried the pulled pork donuts, which sounded strange at first but turned out to be incredibly good — a surprisingly perfect combination and a great appetizer.

For the mains, we ordered brisket, sausages, BBQ chicken, tater tots, and some vegetables. Everything paired beautifully, and the flavors were amazing. We also had a Blue Moon, a fantastic beer that I can highly recommend.

Overall, an excellent experience — amazing food, great atmosphere, stylish interior, and extremely friendly staff. Highly recommended.

Staff was incredibly nice and service overall was great. Our server made some recommendations that helped us choosing the best option as firstimers. We got the big plate to share (more than plenty of food for two people). Food was just AMAZING. Great taste, great value! 100% recommended!!!

So glad we made the choice to go to this place last night. The bbq needs no real description, it is top quality. But two things stood out to me.

First was the identity of the food itself. You may have varying tastes and preferences, but the food had its distinct signature. The Mac and cheese was fantastic and luxurious. The truffle and the cheese crumble to dress it was brilliant. The non-mayo coleslaw had a brilliant tangy minty touch. The six sauces were made in house and added a great complement of flavours to the meats. You can tell that the restaurant put its heart and soul into everything and that alone makes it worth a visit.

But the service, the hospitality of the staff, and not just the very affable (I presume) owner, is a bit refreshing in the more subdued Nordic culture.

A really good selection of beers, including one of my favourites – blue moon. Served in the original glass with a slice of orange as god intended. Extensive selection of wines which we might sample on our next visit.

And lastly, the quantity of food for the family pickins was ample. We struggled to finish it but we were determined nonetheless.

PS. We started eating too fast so I couldn’t upload a photo of the full meal. The ribs were my favourite and they’re not in the photo.

Way Down South is a true paradise for lovers of Southern cuisine! The ribs are fall-off-the-bone tender, the brisket is perfectly cooked – juicy and full of flavor, and the pulled pork is absolutely outstanding. The creamy mac & cheese is the perfect complement to the meal. The portions are generous, and everything is served with a smile – the staff is extremely friendly, attentive, and helpful. You can really feel that this place values not only great food but also a welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommended to anyone who wants to experience real comfort food at its best!

These guys know meat! Succulent and tender meat that cannot be made with shortcuts. Obvious that they have put time and effort into their food.

Great place for a proper American bbq and meaty trays. Wish they had fries, but other than that few objections. The tater tots did the job.

I went for the beef checks burger and can highly recommend it. The meat falls apart. The pulled pork burger also great, with homemade pickles and juicy meat. All burgers come with fresh and soft burger breads.

All in all very happy with this place – but not a place for diet dinners

This place was one of the best BBQ places I’ve been to in Oslo. While it doesn’t meet the mark of similar places I’ve been to in other countries, for Norway, this was great. The service was on point and friendly and the vibe was nice. The food was served quite quickly and had good flavors, especially with their jalapeno sauce. Overall, if you’re in the mood for southern BBQ in Oslo, this should be your stop. Make sure to come earlier as the menu does sell out.

They served us the pulled pork and a burger. The pulled pork was literally just a bunch of cold meat not properly cooked on plate. With nothing on the side. The burger was dangerously uncooked. When i confronted the waitress about this, it was as if she was trained to tell me that «beetroot» was the cause of the red color. And then she later changed her explanation and told that the chef’s use red food coloring on the meat? What on earth is this establishment on. Any way the first waiter was rather unwelcoming, the tables and chairs were filthy and rotten. But the worst part was the constant smell of marijuanah in the air hitting the outdoor serving area.

Due to the establishment charging so much money for improperly processed meat, the Norwegian Safety Authority has been notified.
