The only thing was that the service started a bit slow, and when our food finally came out, we didn’t get any silverware at first. For a second, I actually wondered if we should just start eating with our hands. Luckily, once we got everything sorted, the meal totally made up for it.
The prices were fair for the portions, everything tasted fresh, and the atmosphere was nice and relaxed. We’ll definitely come back again—just maybe make sure the forks arrive with the food next time!
We were visiting Boston as tourists and brought friends and family who had never been to Applebee’s before. It’s a place my husband and I usually enjoy for the food, drinks, and service.
First, I do want to acknowledge and thank the staff for accommodating a large party of 14 people, including 2 babies and 3 children. We appreciate the effort to seat everyone together, which is not always easy.
Unfortunately, the service itself was very poor. The wait to take our order was long, and everyone at the table was extremely hungry. My babies could not handle the delay, and I had to feed them baby food while waiting.
When ordering, I asked to substitute mashed potatoes for fries. My husband also ordered an extra side of fries with his meal. My fries did not arrive at all. After I complained, the server brought me a portion, but my husband’s extra fries were still missing. We waited again, and only after asking a second time did the server realize the order had been entered incorrectly.
The drink service was also unacceptable. The beers took so long to arrive that the men at the table had already finished their meals by the time the drinks were served.
Overall, this visit fell far below the level of service we expect from Applebee’s.
While we will continue to visit and recommend Applebee’s because we know this is not the usual experience, one issue that truly bothered me must be addressed: The tablets at the table allow children to purchase games without any parental authorization. These charges are added directly to the bill. A 3-year-old has no understanding of this, and although I chose not to complain at the moment to avoid unnecessary stress over $2.50, this practice is not acceptable.
Children should never be allowed to make purchases without explicit parental approval. This should require a clear authorization step from a parent.
