I had lunch on the patio. I got the “Italian Sandwich” from the tavern menu. This was on a small size bulkie roll. It had 4 tissue thin pieces of salami, one tissue thin piece of prosciutto, a few slivers of cheese, thin tomato slice and lettuce. In all it had to have maybe 1 ounce of meat. I went home hungry. For the price this was horrible. When you say an Italian sandwich, it has more than just salami and prosciutto, never mind a little bit of meat overall. Will not go back.

We have rarely had such poor service in a restaurant in years. We made a reservation extra early because we had another engagement after dinner. However, the waiter seemed perplexed and bothered when we asked for separate checks. The restaurant was not crowded and he finally took our entree order after we had been seated for over 20 minutes – that was a bit long. But then it took over an hour from the time we ordered for our food to come (actually about 70 minutes). We asked the waiter about it on several occasions. He told us our orders were behind several other tables and asked us to be patient. In the meanwhile, about six or seven other tables that were seated well after us received their entrees. We finally got our meals and my dish was OK, really no complaints. But my wife’s lasagna was literally burnt on top and she couldn’t eat it. It was too late to ask for another lasagna or another entree because we were running late for our next engagement. We complained to the manager and, thankfully, he took her order off the bill. In all fairness, we have been to Il Montebello several times before with somewhat better results. However, this experience was unacceptable.

Every single dish was made to perfection. Maybe I didn’t like the dessert special so much but:
1) Fried Calamari: breaded beautifully, the calamari was juicy and not chewy, the tomato sauce with just the right amount of acidity.
2) Hawaiian Pizza: a bit of a sacrilege to have pineapples on pizza, but you know when you see it – it’s homemade, the dough is fresh, the ham amazingly crispy.
3) Striped Bass: Don’t ask them to debone it for you for they’ll take away the crispy bits which we liked! But the fish was fresh, spinach seasoned perfectly.
4) Fruti di Mare: All the seafood was on point. No fishy smell, linguine was freshly made.
No regrets coming here! I’d come here again and again

We had a fantastic dinner! Food was outstanding and Maria and the rest of the staff were excellent. I had the Sole Francaise and the portion was huge! The carbonara was delicious!

Ok – so maybe you’re going to have to wait for your table for possibly an unreasonable amount of time. What’s your hurry?! Go to McD’s then. But if you want excellent Italian fare mid-Cape, Il Montebello is the spot. Not what you’d expect from a golf course club house on the Cape….

I’m assuming they were short of help, but the service and food were awful. Some of us ordered the personal pizzas and had to send them back because they were so burnt. We waited long periods between drinks, ordering and getting our food. We rarely saw our waitress, but other staff members tried to fill in. With the language barrier, it was difficult to understand one another. I would not go back.
