The food was decent but not worth the price. I had the elk chop (wild game meal), which was cooked perfectly just too spicy to eat and enjoy. I ended up bringing it home but doubt I’ll even eat it.
My son had the duck, which I tasted and it was very moist and good.
We also got the Charcuterie Plate. I wasn’t a fan of the rabbit/python sausage but surprisingly loved the cricket hummus and cheeses.
The banana desert was horrible. My husband and son enjoyed the peanut butter pie.
The waitress was very friendly and never let our beverages get low.
Loved the atmosphere but it was very dark and hard to read the menu due to lightning.
Definitely a very expensive place!!

We had a fantastic dinner at Alligator Soul Restaurant omg we have not had such good food in a while. You enter going down into a basement and as you walk in, you’re greeted by elegant exposed brickwork, chandeliers, and decor. The exposed beams, drapery, and fountains in the windows caught my attention. We were seated straight away, and our server, Charlie, who made us feel right at home, made our night. He brought great conversation and told us about the food and gave us solid recommendations. His attention to detail and customer service skills were off the charts.

We started the night popping bottles, and the amuse-bouche and homemade bread came out, which we did not take a photo of because we ate it so quickly that we forgot. From the perfectly tender Alligator bites to the mouth-watering bone marrow and mushroom dish, which was rich in flavor. The bone marrow had lots of bone marrow, not like some restaurants where they hand you a dried-out chicken bone and a bunch of bread.

The salad came out next, and omg, Charlie split it and made it into two giant salads that were creamy and cheesy. Even the lettuce tastes good, and I don’t generally eat salads. The little cheese croutons were fantastic they took the salad to the next level. Then came another bottle of bubble and the wild boar. The wild boar was absolutely divine and melted off the bone. There was a point where I was like, screw the fork and knife, and ate it like boar on a stick!. We were so stuffed but could not resist, then we tried their creamy mashed potatoes that were fluffy and creamy and so buttery that I’m not sure what type of black magic the chef pulled off, but those were not potatoes. Finally, I worked up the strength to try the greens. These were the best greens I have ever had. They were fresh and packed with flavors. These were absolutely incredible even the texture was good. It paired perfectly with the boar.

We ended the night with a digestiff and then Charlie brought us some special holiday mulled wine the chef made. Thank you, Charlie, we will be back again! We had a fantastic time.

Sad to have to give three stars here because the food was phenomenal. Unfortunately the service was not even close to what it should have been at a restaurant with this price point.

We had a 5:30 reservation and were sat at a table near the bar. The bartenders were nice but were waiting the tables in that area, working the seated bar, and I assume, also making drinks for the rest of the restaurant. They were doing the best they could with being responsible for all this. At this level of dining you shouldn’t have bartenders serving tables and bartending. We ordered everything at once and didn’t get our entrees until 7pm.

The atmosphere is a little stuffy and feels cheaper than the level of menu offered.

The food itself was absolutely delicious. If you’re debating the peanut butter pie – get it.

The service and interior need improvement to match the price and execution of the dishes.

We were served by Chauncey and Harley and they were truly fantastic! Service was great, food was delicious and atmosphere is great. We had the two specials of the night which were a local fish dish the bison. We also had the baked oysters and gumbo which were phenomenal. Highly recommend.

Delicious food with a modern take on classic southern comfort cooking. The service was impeccable and the atmosphere carefully curated to be intimate. We enjoyed the cocktails with fresh twists on classic mixes. The charcuterie board has some unusual selections (candied aligator!), but don’t let that put you off, everything on the board was delicious. The shrimp and grits were rich and creamy, just the right amount of savory cheese. Finish with the peanut butter pie if you have room!

Our dinner experience was wonderful thanks to the delicious food and Hannah’s expertise and distinct charme. I went in not so sure if I wanted to try alligator, but ended up trying everything we were recommended. We scraped off our plates, that’s how delicious everything was. Also appreciated the bar for our Whiskey Sours that they actually make the cream with egg white. The atmosphere of the restaurant was elegant and felt personal. Thanks again to Hannah, we would love to come back next time we visit!

Great restaurant with the option to try upscale fare you might not be able to find elsewhere! They had elk and wild boar that I will definitely be trying next time. I ended up having the Barrel-Aged Old Fashioned, the Oysters A La Soul, and a Seared Red Fish on Rice with Asparagus. They do have specials and the waiter helpfully lists the price of them so you don’t have to worry about appearing cheap if you ask. It’s a romantic space in a basement like grotto. The stairs are kind of steep to get down to the entrance, so just be careful. The atmosphere is cozy and feels luxurious. It’s definitely not an everyday option but perfect for an anniversary or birthday. I spent close to $100 on a cocktail, appetizer, and entree, just myself. Make sure you get reservations! I got mine a month out but they do fill up fast and I didn’t see anything opening up in the weeks leading up.

We went for an early Valentines dinner to beat the crowds and place did not disappoint.
The atmosphere was phenomenal and we had this incredibly enthusiastic waitress (Amanda) who was so fun.
The food was bad ass! We had the crispy alligator (easily the best alligator I’ve ever tasted), alligator mac n cheese, redfish special, and the deviled crab (which was phenomenal). Great wine selection too 🙂
We highly recommend this place when visiting Savannah and we’ll definitely be coming back again.

Another winner in Savannah. Great ambience and service was professional and excellent.
Make a reservation. The restaurant is located down some stairs in an old underground space. The chef is very talented and uses a lot of game in the recipes along with traditional soul food recipes.

I was skeptical about a truly Southern restaurant because much of the menu was new to me. From the moment our party was greeted by the team at the host stand, I was put at ease. Their kindness and genuine warmth was representative of the entire staff who seemed really excited to share the talents of Chef William James Deane with us.

Our server, Charlie, was enthusiastic and guided us through the men. He encouraged us to experience savory dishes that made them famous like wild game, alligator, and frogs legs. Every recommendation was perfect from appetizers to drink and desserts. Trust this restaurant and trust the team that brings it to life each night.

Take a risk with something new – you’ll love the experience.

A few additional thoughts – ask for the specials, the restaurant is underground so cell service is rare, enjoy the house bread and butter, don’t miss the banana cheesecake parfait.
