Dropped by for lunch and we were seated very quickly, hostess at the door was friendly. Our server Ashley was a doll, you can tell she really loves her job & just loves people in general. Very infectious energy, you can’t help but smile. She frequently dropped by our table inquiring if we needed anything, which I appreciate- Management should give this young woman a raise, it’s people like her that make people want to return to a restaurant. Kind hearted people are the bread and butter for restaurants like this. This was my first time visiting but won’t be the last. The food was super fresh, hot, and crispy. The portion you get for the price you pay blew my mind, the platter I got only ended up being $16 and that is a steal! I left stuffed like a turkey. The Crush drink I had was yummy. I also tried the Calamari and it was scrumptious.

My brother and I thoroughly enjoyed eating lunch here. The atmosphere was great and our waitress was very kind and attentive. She refilled our water glasses multiple times without us having to ask. Mikey was also kind and personalable. He stopped by our table to check-in and ensure our needs were met. It’s hard to find good quality restaurants open on Mondays these days. I highly recommend if you’re in the area.

Stopped by around 7:30 pm for some dinner. No wait time, just a decent handful of people already dining in. Waitress was friendly and a lot of the items on the menu sounded really good to try. After placing out orders, it did it take a long time in between receiving each item. Our drinks came out pretty fast along with one of our appetizers, but following that, both our main entrees took forever. While we were waiting on them, we noticed my entree had been sitting on the hot bar for a good little minute waiting for the waitress to pick it up who was dealing with other customers for a long time; (4/10) on the wait time/service for me.
We started with some Fried pickles (9/10) the batter and the pickles both tasted yummy, hot, and fresh. Voodoo wings in mild sauce (10/10) there was a slight like crunch and crisp to the wings that added to the already delicious flavors and the wings were really big! Crabbie Mac (10/10) it was tasty, creamy, and all around my favorite of the night. The groovy daddy burger (6/10) this was the very last item to finally arrive to the table and after such a long wait, I was expecting much more from it. It had a decent flavor but was dry.
For drinks, I had the Cherry limeade crush (5/10) just tasted like soda honestly; don’t think much to any alcohol was really in it. The flavor of it was refreshing though.
I can see myself coming back again to try the other items on the menu, but I was definitely disappointed in the long wait times and my drink.
My overall rate of experience : 6.8/10

The restaurant is nice but… The bar is where it’s at!!! Sweet Danielle is my favorite bartender and she can chat you up for hours and sling the drinks.
Take advantage of their 3-6pm daily happy hour specials on $1.50 oysters, clams, wings and drinks, and there’s so much more! $3 PBR’s, $5 margaritas
If you love fresh clams… They have a delicious dish called the clam bucket where the clams are cooked in a savory garlic herb broth, and served with crostini. Wowww!! I love fresh clams so that is a flavor explosion on the taste buds.
She-crab soup is the same recipe as The Aberdeen Barn’s famous she-crab soup. Same owner, so it’s the best of the best in Hampton Roads.
Always had friendly conversations with other patrons, and the people coming in are cool folk. I only wish the bar were bigger so we could accommodate more folks. The last time I was there I bought a round of PBRs for the 6 kitchen staff!! They were so sweet and appreciative of me. Anyhoo I’ve said enough, so just go ahead and plan a trip that way!!! And make sure you save me a seat at the bar

I had the BEST STEAK SANDWICH EVER today! The Ribeye steak sandwich on the lunch menu is AMAZING! We also got 1/2 dozen oysters, fried green tomatoes, sweet potatoe fries for the baby, chicken nachos, bread pudding and carrot cake! All the food was very good! But be clear, the STEAK SANDWICH IS WHY I am going out of my way to GIVE THIS 5 star rating! Ribeye steak, toasted ciabatta roll , pepper jack cheese, thick cut bacon, lettuce, tomato, red onion and some special sauce! I couldn’t eat it all… but have never looked forward to leftovers so much! I will be back!

The menu options are great and the food was fantastic. Our waitress Taylor S was wonderful too. Highly recommend the fish and chips and fried pickles. I’m pretty sure the tartar sauce is house made and it was delicious. Prices were reasonable for the quality of the food and the portion size. They have some great lunch specials. Would definitely come back.

I am trying not to give too many five stars, but this place was too good. I loved the food and the service. I would not get the nachos again but the cake, she crab soup, and crab cake sandwich were amazing. Will for sure be back for happy hour

Captain Groovy’s offered a fun and laid-back atmosphere for our first visit. The service was excellent, attentive and friendly. However, parking can be a challenge due to the limited lot that fills quickly.
The food was a mixed bag. The oysters were fresh and delicious, but some of the other dishes lacked flavor and seemed a bit bland. While the restaurant wasn’t crowded, our food took a while to arrive, which could be due to potential staffing issues.
Overall, it was a decent experience, but the food could be improved to match the great service and atmosphere.

Went there because they’re on a list of the best She Crab Soup in Hampton Roads. I first had that ambrosia at the old Painted Lady Restaurant in Norfolk 20 years ago.
Well Groovy’s was really good. A thicker style rather than a bisque. Great flavor and tons of crab meat. Their shrimp cocktail was great. Lots and lots of horseradish! The key lime pie was good too. The traditional yellow with a really lite crumbly crust. Will go back if I have more time here.

Everything from the drinks to desserts were great. Highly recommend the Lamb Chop appetizer!! The crab cake was very good!! Raw Bar oysters another plus! Just try it all it will not disappoint!!
