This restaurant had some good reviews, so my friends suggested we have dinner here.
The atmosphere had a weird vibe to it. As you enter, to the left by the wall, they have kitchen equipment. Unplugged but being stored there.
There are not a lot of tables as well. The ones they do have, tables, and legs are wobbly.
There were not a lot of guests dining at the time we came in, but it took a while for us to be seated.
It took even longer to take our order. Half an hour later, the 2 guys I was with got their chicken wraps.
They really enjoyed it!
I sat another 10 minutes with no food. I flagged down the other worker, and she went back to check. Our waiter never put in my salmon bowl. He came and apologized. What good does that do?
What a disappointment,
to be there for over an hour and 15 minutes for such a simple meal.
The worst part is that a street person was allowed inside. She sat by the window with her blanket. She kept walking up and down the aisle by the register. She was dancing and talking to herself. She was never asked to leave.
This alone will not make us return to this establishment.

Tried the GP burger for lunch today with chimichurri waffle fries. Was pretty quick, could barely fit the burger in my mouth. Quiet and clean! Will go back to try other things.

Stopped for lunch on a whim as we drove through Suffolk and the experience made us wish we lived close enough to make The General Public a regular destination. Wide and eclectic menu and everything was delicious. Tiffany, our server, was delightful and we could not fault anything. We highly recommend the eatery even if it means a side trip in your drive. Thank you all.

Omgggg the food is fresh and made to order I think there was only one person in the kitchen but when I tell you it was worth the wait. The lemon dill on the salmon was perfect it compliments the fish so well. The fish was cooked perfectly it wasn’t dry and seasoned well. The rice was fluffy and the green beans were well cooked. I also got the Caribbean bowl I’m saving for lunch tomorrow but I of course tried a piece of chicken for quality control and it’s juicy & well seasoned. The cashier was friendly and he ended up voiding my purchases and ringing it up again to include the deal of the day BOGO 50%. There is a sign on the door with the deals of the day so make sure to check them out.

I did not have a good experience here. Years ago, before I had a gluten allergy, I dined at the Suffolk location and loved the food and service. Now that I have an allergy I’m very mindful about where I eat. I called ahead to the Norfolk location and asked if they had any gluten-free options and was reassured that they could “make anything on the menu gluten free” I took that loosely because usually restaurants don’t have separate gluten free friers so my expectation was that I could perhaps get a burger with no bun, grilled wings, or a rice bowl. A few hours later I went with my husband and we were seated within a couple minutes. When trying to order I asked the waitress if their wings or burger patties were gluten free. She said let me go check and see and came back with a no. Then I asked what they had that was gluten free expecting there would be another option based on my earlier phone call to the restaurant. She went back and asked the cook and he said nothing in the restaurant was gluten free. We drove 30 minutes just to have to leave. The waitress was sweet and I could tell she felt bad but there wasn’t anything else to be done. My husband enjoyed his basil lemonade and she comped it but the overall experience was disappointing because I never would’ve driven that far knowing that there wouldn’t be anything for me to eat. I don’t expect restaurants to cater to my allergy but if I’m told on the phone very confidently that there is gluten free food for me and then we waste time and gas to go I feel pretty frustrated. If you don’t have an allergy this restaurant may be a good choice but I likely won’t be going back which is disappointing.

We decided to stop by General Public while on Granby Street after seeing all the great reviews—and they weren’t wrong! This place was fantastic. The food was served hot and was absolutely delicious. We tried the Chicken Tenders and the Chicken Wrap, both of which were flavorful and well-prepared. Plus, everything was reasonably priced, making it a great value.
The atmosphere is modern, clean, and comfortable, creating the perfect setting for a casual meal. However, the highlight of our visit was the service provided by Sierra (hope we got the spelling right!). She was amazing—juggling multiple tables and tasks effortlessly, all while maintaining a warm and friendly demeanor that made us feel welcome.
General Public has definitely earned a spot on our list of regular lunch options on Granby. We can’t wait to return!

This was another new spot for me. A friend of mine told me to check it out. Food was really good. Service was good also. Nice small spot. Has room for dinning in. I had sweet tea to drink that was perfect and then ordered the salmon bowl that came with green beans and rice. I usually don’t eat too much rice but this rice was perfect. Nice and buttery. I also ordered the GP burger. It was huge and very good. I will definitely be coming back here. Food was full of flavor. Shout out to the chef

The food, atmosphere, and service at this restaurant was spot on!!! Even my two picky eaters rated their meals 10 out of 10! I was even more surprised to see them pick something on the menu other than the usual chicken Tenders and fries. The basil Lemonade was so good, my 6yr old ate the leaves lol. Absolutely recommend this restaurant to families and anyone looking for a delicious meal! If I could rank them higher, I would! 2 thumbs up, from Charlotte, NC.

My husband and I decided to have lunch here, and we were both glad we chose this spot! Tonya was very professional and gave great reviews on the things we were interested in. I chose the veggie burger, and it was so good the mayo that was added gave it just the right punch to kick it up two notches!! The Mac Fritter was definitely what Tonya said ” a party in your mouth,” baby…. that thing was so, so, so good. I wanted to order a second one. My husband had the turkey sandwich with waffle fries and he said the turkey melted in his mouth. This place had nice music playing and they also had a TV playing so to me that was having the best of both worlds with a glass of southern sweeeet tea! Thanks for the flavorful dishes that we will tell everyone about

I’ve always wanted to try the one in Suffolk, so I was thrilled to see the new Norfolk location while I was at a festival. I had the Hot Chick and my friend had the Plain Jane burger. Both were DELICIOUS! The burger was cooked too perfection, and the chicken sandwich was the perfect blend of spicy and sweet! My friend had the basil lemonade which was really good! The service was excellent as well! I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and experience.
