We had a kids birthday event there for a member of our Japanese leadership team. Our group was able to rent the place out and bring several of our colleagues. I was able to try the shrimp Katsu but I heard the chicken and traditional pork were a hit as well.
Meeting Kazu (hope I spelled correctly) the owner, was a treat as well. He was extremely gracious and even took part in out festivities.
I’d highly recommend. Delicious authentic food, warm staff and tremendous location. It will be a great way to learn about one of the most popular Japanese comfort foods.
Crispy, flavorful, and authentic — whether you go for chicken or pork, every bite delivers that perfect crunch. The cozy Japanese vibe makes it feel like a quick trip to Tokyo. Highly recommend stopping by on your way to Wrigley Field — it’s the kind of meal that’ll recharge your energy and keep you smiling through the game!
While the katsu is crispy, pork is much less tender than one would expect.
I was met with a big chunk of gristle in my second bite, and apparently the pork chop is not treated properly to either remove or tenderize the gristle, which is extremely hard to bite through.
In addition, the center part of the chop, the lean pork, is more stiff than one would expect.
The price is not too bad. The pork chop plus rice and miso is $16.45 pre tax/$18.14 post tax. There’s less than half of the katsu I’m showing in the picture, and I believe the whole pork chop is over 1/2 pound. I’ll leave to you to judge if this is overpriced or not.
3/5 so-so
The only thing that could be better was the temperature of the food. It was lukewarm warm as if it’s been sitting there for a little while. The katsu was not as crunchy as I thought it would be.
Strawberry matcha shake was DELICIOUS✨
This time, we only ordered pork dishes, everything was so delicious—katsu sandwiches, Katsu rice bowls, and katsu curry rice.
The thickness of the cutlet was something I’ve rarely seen, even in Japan—so thick and satisfying! The pork was it tender, wrapped in a perfectly crispy golden panko crust. Freshly fried, it was amazingly yummy ! Surprisingly, there was no greasiness at all. The variety of sauces to choose from was a great touch!
They also have chicken and shrimp on the menu, which we’re excited to try next time.
My teenage daughter was also blown away by the matcha milkshake! Definitely worth a visit!
The katsu was thicker than the average Katsu out there and the Curry was uniquely delicious.
It’s good to know this place is authentic as can be and taste that can be trusted.
