My family an I visited for the first time in Sunday for a roast. The food was lovely, couldn’t give a five star as the roasted parsnips and carrots were tuff to cut and chewy. But don’t let that stop you going, the flavours are fantastic, meat is superb and very good and attentive service. We will definitely be back!

Wonderful food, full of flavour and presented without gimmicks. Prompt, polite service in a charming rustic building with nods to the historic past. Lively selection of ales too!
A little piece of France in the centre of York. Superb !

Went for Sunday lunch. Started with a delicious special of asparagus risotto, then had a mixed beef and pork roast dinner. Lovely tender meat with great crackling and Yorkshire pudding and home made gravy. Up until now would have said that Roast, on borough market was the best roast dinner out but this topped it! Great service too.

We had not booked a meal but the staff were very obliging and it was no problem finding a table although it was early evening. The ambiance was good with subtle music the food and the service was excellent and they had real beer. You have a choice to eat in the bar downstairs or upstairs in the restaurant area. We chose upstairs with a very nice atmosphere. It was an excellent meal and experience and I would certainly recommend it and go again if in York.

Absolutely delicious Food and Wine. We had an evening meal here and we were very impressed with the quality and taste of all the dishes. We had Pan Seared Scallops and Boudin Noir for starters, Slow Cooked Yorkshire Lamb Shoulder and Longhorn Rump Steak for mains with a Sticky Toffee Pudding and whisky for dessert.. can’t recommend it enough. Service was also very polite and efficient, Thanks 🙂

Our food was delicious! We had the Sunday pork roast including Yorkshire pudding (2 course special) with an entree (shared) and a dessert (shared). The staff were super friendly and very helpful. Thank you to Oliver in the bar for his suggestions and wonderful friendly service.

Found this little gem of a place by default, a couple leaving said it was amazing food so we decided to nip in, and so very glad we did. We only had bar snacks (Yorkshire pudding with pulled beef and dirty fries). Both absolutely delicious, very good cask ales and nice selection of gins too, in a chilled, non pretentious atmosphere with friendly staff! We will be back!

My husband and I visited the Chopping Block for our wedding anniversary having never been before (but had heard good things) and we were so happy with the evening. The food was sublime, portion size perfect, and so reasonably priced. Impressive wine list (again, reasonably priced for the standard) and the staff were incredibly friendly. Great plus that the building is a fabulous historical tardis! Really enjoyed ourselves and will definitely be back.

First came here as a Christmas work team outing in December and loved the food. Took my wife back there for our anniversary and we both loved it. Both times being mid week it wasn’t overly busy, the food was great and the service really good.
