We have lived in Chesapeake since 2018 and have not been in this restaurant until the other day. WOW!!! Food and service was top notch AAANNND it was affordable, too. Are you actually kidding?! The trifecta of any fantastic restaurants. It was so awesome that we came back the very next day with our kids and had even more great time.
THANK YOU to Maria and our second server (I’m sorry, I forgot her name but she was just as big of an asset as any MVP employees) who made our experiences so lovely.

Entered the restaurant and was greeted with a smile. We had to wait due to being early for our party reservations. Went yo the bar to have drinks while we wait. When we were told that our table’s ready, I stood up. We were trying to get the bar tender attention. When to manager that was standing there turned to us and said are you cashing out. I replied no, our table is ready. She said you have to cash out , let me get you bartender. That has never happened at any place before nor did I have a problem with cashing if its there policy. Its just the approach and the way it was addressed. Paided and took our own drinks to the table. Everything things else was great. I did ask our server the policy on the bar to table and explained the details. He said no you dont have to cash out unless you the customer request it. I thanked him and his customer service to our large party.
(Let’s be fare to all and follow the company’s policy and not pass judgment due personal judgment.)
Loved everything else and the live music!
Everyone else, the bartender, host and server great job
Happy New Year!!

Visiting the area for a family members home-going service and decided to dine together as a family of 12. We made a reservation and was promptly seated. Our waiter, Walter, was extremely patient and helpful during our decision making for meals and appetizers. My chicken florentine was very delicious however one of the larger pieces could’ve stood a few extra minutes on the grill. He quickly took the under-cooked piece and had the cook to prepare me a fresh piece. I left totally full and satisfied! We were so distracted by catching up as a family that we didn’t even realize the restaurant closed at 8pm. We were not hassled to hurry and leave but were allowed to just fellowship together in our time of grief… that was the most outstanding and special part of the experience. I would definitely return if I’m ever back in this area!

Had dinner with 8 friends. Linda, our waitress was just perfect. We have a loud group, and I am sure she knew she had a handful. But she had a great disposition and took care of us. She was fun, and always there when we needed something. Food and drinks were great. Absolutely go again. Thanx Linda.

My daughter decided to get married and I had 18 hrs to figure out all the details including a place to have a lunch reception. I called The Black Pelican on the suggestion of a woman in one of my Mom’s Groups on Facebook. My call was made on Thursday around dinner time and I was able to book their large, private reception room with only a $50 deposit. That $50 deposit was later given back as a discount on the bill… making the rental free! Crystal, the manager, took my reservation and let me know I could add-on linen service for $30, so I did and it was perfect! Crystal and I set a time for me to come before the ceremony so I could drop off a few flowers, balloons, and candle vases. My anxiety was super high on the call…Crystal talked me down and stated, “Don’t worry, we will make it great!” even with the timeframe given.
When I walked in the next morning to drop off items I was pleasantly pleased with how the staff set up the tables and chairs, linens, a couple’s table and a cake table. I was running super late and overwhelmed. Crystal took the flowers, vases, decorations, balloons and cake and said, “You go! We got this!” We had a quick chuckle at my random items and how I got them in such a short time. Then I was off to the ceremony.
After the ceremony we came back and when I came back to the room I cried. Crystal and her staff took my items and further transformed the room into a beautiful reception! They took the time to further cut down our flowers and place them beautifully in the small crystal vases I brought, add the decorative banner to the cake table, strategically place the balloons, etc.
Walter was our server and was absolutely a gem. He pulled together a champagne toast for 12, got orders and drinks for 20 people, handled multiple tabs, even more guest requests, remained calm and steady for the event and even after as we packed up personal items.
I can’t even begin to express my DEEPEST gratitude to Crystal, Walter, the hostess Aleah, and The Black Pelican for not only being available but making it a truly special and wonderful experience. I will ABSOLUTELY be a customer and advocate for The Black Pelican until further notice. Thank you all!

I can’t express how thankful I am for Black Pelican and their staff. We hosted the rehearsal dinner here for our son’s wedding. From the beginning with booking and touring the room, to the communication up to the day of the dinner, everything was seamless. The actual rehearsal dinner was nothing short of amazing!! The food was exceptional with almost nothing left on any plate. The staff were attentive and never missed a beat. We eat here often, but this was our first time having a large event dinner. I’m truly grateful for such a wonderful experience. You are the BEST!! Thank you for making this such a memorable experience!

I came up to visit my son for Thanksgiving and with a15 minute notice the receptionist took my call and stated there was always room at the bar, but when I arrived she recognized me and stated she had a table and no wait. I couldn’t believe it 1:00 pm on Thanksgiving. I was seated and had the buffet it was wonderful. Great personal, great food, and good atmosphere. Yes I had a great dinning experience. I very seldom give reviews and this one was worth taking the time to do.
Thank you
Black Pelican.

We called ahead of time and made reservations for 7:30.
We arrived at 7:25 and were seated within 5 minutes.
10 minutes passed before our waitress approached our table.
7:40 Asks what we are drinking, ordered 2 sweet teas, and one alcoholic beverage.
7:50: Got drinks and placed our order: appetizer (bread with brie) and two seafood dinners.
During our wait, we noticed every table seated after us was given complimentary bread. We asked the patrons behind us if they ordered it, and they said no. It was just brought to them. When our waitress returned, we asked why we weren’t offered bread. She seemed offended and said, “Well, you ordered bread… It’s just the same bread.” Why would I pay for bread that everyone else was getting for free? That doesn’t make sense…. no one after us had placed orders, they were just brought bread. If we were brought bread in the beginning, we would have ordered a different appetizer.
8:01: Appetizer of bread came, and waitress said, “See?” And she was right! it was the same bread everyone else got… for free. So we were basically paying $12 for warm cheese to spread on it.
8:25: We got our food.
We both got salmon. There was a miscommunication about what my partner ordered, but since the other issue had been met with oddness, we chose not to pursue it. Both dishes tasted excellent. The Salmon Oscar was great. This is 23 plus an extra 6 and change.
All in all, the seafood was great. Hats off to the kitchen.
Dinner was over $100.
Don’t pay for the bread.

Absolutely fabulous! Everything we had was delicious! The menu boasts so many delicious and unique flavors, we will have to return! The appetizers of a dozen steamed oysters and a lb. Of steamed shrimp were just what the Dr. Ordered, so fresh and tasty! You have to try this place! Highly recommend the desserts too.
