TL;DR: Starters had some ideas but not enough execution, mains were stingy, desserts were a failure. This new place lacks scale and experience.

I went because the menu looked interesting and creative, but unfortunately: (1) the chef’s ideas don’t really match my taste, and (2) the portions and ingredients were too stingy.

Starter – Fruit & Cheese Toast:
The chef had the idea of using fruity sweet-and-sour notes to whet the appetite, which I appreciated. Sadly, the berries were way too sour and completely ruined the balance. High-end kitchens usually use anaerobically fermented, candied berries to avoid this problem. Pistachios were so scarce they were undetectable, and the cheese portion was too tiny to even cover the bread.

Starter – Shrimp Cake:
Rich shrimp flavor without any bitterness. At one point, I almost thought I was eating a lobster cake—surprisingly impressive (in a good way).

Main – Steak:
The doneness was a disaster: overcooked outside, rare inside. Clearly, they threw it on the grill straight from the fridge. The grill chef needs a serious talking-to. The portion was small, and because it was sugar-marinated, the caramelized crust burned and turned bitter from poor heat control. Start over, grill chef. The saffron rice side had so little saffron that it barely looked yellow.

Main – Slow-Cooked Short Rib:
Temperature control was acceptable, but the charred crust was burnt and bitter, which brought it down to barely passable. The side of gouda risotto, though, was one of the cleanest flavors I’ve ever had.

Desserts – both a disaster:
The chocolate cake skipped flour just to ride the gluten-free trend (confusing, since many people who aren’t gluten-intolerant still avoid it). The result: mushy texture like eating sludge

My friends and I had such a nice lunch here. The food was delicious, the service was excellent and the outdoor seating was lovely for enjoying the beautiful weather. Other places we walked by smelled terrible from cigarettes, not here. Definitely recommend.

Superb food, drinks, atmosphere and service! Richy (our server) provided a number of recommendations. We got the chop salad and the short rib hash both of which were exceptional with highly complex flavor profiles. Would recommend.

The food and waitress was great. I loved seeing different spices being used from what’s normally used. This quaint and cozy gem of a restaurant was a great experience but wasn’t easy to find.

This is a nice restaurant nook in old town. We enjoyed the chilaqules and the espresso martini! However, I don’t think you can go wrong with your selection here!

Lunch at Beginner’s Luck in Old Town Scottsdale was amazing. The vibe is fun and laid back, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy a midday meal while exploring the area.

The food was outstanding and was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Everything we tried was delicious and well portioned, and it easily stands out from typical lunch spots in the area.

If you’re in Old Town Scottsdale and looking for a great lunch, Beginner’s Luck is a must stop. We’ll absolutely be back.

This hidden gem was great! My friend and I came here on a recommendation for Restaurant week. I had made reservations for 2, dinner at 6:30 inside. When we arrived, we were greeted and seated. The indoor seating was very small, but it does have some bar seating along with a nice patio. The atmosphere was very sleek simple modern with a lot of local artwork. Maddie, our server came over, introduced herself, very nice, friendly and attentive.

We ordered the Chile Margaritas, which were fantastic. I chose to order from the restaurant week menu: The Original Chopped Salad, Crab and Shrimp Roll and the Good Fortune Cake, while my friend ordered the Lucky Burger. All the dishes were excellent! I would definitely come here again along with trying the brunch menu.

Atmosphere: sleek simple modern. Service: excellent. Food: excellent.

Didn’t get much, the kimchi bread was unique and everyone who tried it liked it. The food we got was pretty basic but prepared well. I didn’t really like the kimchi bread but it was definitely unique. It is a cute place, there isn’t really much seating but it wasn’t horrible as we came at not busy time, a Thursday early day.

We enjoyed a late brunch here on a Friday afternoon. Food, service and atmosphere were fantastic.
We had espresso martinis and Prosecco with sorbet for our cocktails followed by the banana bread and cucumber salad to start.
We ordered a table French toast, my rich uncles French toast which was an insanely delicious concoction.
We ate chilaquiles, a burger, the pork bowl and a blt all were fantastic and would order again. Personal preference but I would ask for extra sauce with the chilaquiles. We would def go back!
