The Barn Door Restaurant is a true gem! The steaks are absolutely darn good—juicy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The service matches the quality of the food—attentive and friendly without being overbearing. It’s the perfect spot whether you’re celebrating with a big group or enjoying a romantic dinner for two.

The location also has a fun surprise—a hidden speakeasy around the back that adds to the old-school charm and history of the place. If you’re ever in the area, definitely stop in for a taste of history and one of the best steaks around!

My only small suggestion would be to dress up the salad a bit—maybe add some carrots, cheese, and croutons for that extra touch. Other than that, everything was spot on.

Fantastic venue for events!

We recently hosted a retirement party for about 40 people at The Barn Door, and the entire experience was outstanding from start to finish. The planning process was smooth and stress-free—our manager was knowledgeable, attentive, and incredibly helpful in recommending menu options that worked perfectly for our group.

On the day of the event, the staff went above and beyond. Service was top-notch, the food was delicious, and the party room was comfortable and well set up. Our guests were impressed, and we couldn’t have asked for a better celebration.

I can’t recommend The Barn Door enough for your next event, meeting, or special gathering. They made everything easy and truly memorable!

The hostess and server were very friendly. Instead of just leading us to a table and seating us, they would both actually have a conversation and were genuinely concerned with how things were going.

Food was excellent. Bring an appetite because the portions are not small.

Been coming to San Antonio for 20 years and am just now finding this hidden gem. I will be returning.

The last time we were here was over about 10yrs ago. The food and service seem to have remained the same. Large portions! The food was all a little under seasoned/flavored but not bad. The ranch was not your typical “good ranch” it had a very slight spice to it. I would go back and try their thousand island instead

Such an awesome place to have an incredible steak at a great price. Old time charm, they still do birthday shout outs on their marquee. I remember going here 40 years ago when I was a kid and the place still has the same feel. Food is incredible, the jalapeño twice baked potato is a must. Friendly and prompt service and is quiet enough to have a conversation over dinner.

Steak was good and cooked accurately, but a little overpriced for the quality. Waitress was very nice, but the service was slow. Also menu didn’t offer a lot of options. Loved the design though with all of the vintage decorations, also very clean bathroom and in general. Forgot to mention the dessert was delicious definitely get the apple pie.

I felt that the price was high considering the quality of the meat and the low-rent Western kitsch decor. The best part of the meal was the twice-baked potato with jalapeno. The ribeye steak at ~$45 had a lot of gristle in it and had clearly been allowed to sit too long before serving; it was cooked correctly (medium rare) but barely warm on the outside. It’s absolutely possible to serve a steak that’s both medium rare and hot off the grill with a nice sear; this was not.

Not worth the hype. Yes, interior is beautiful but food…everything was good except for STEAKS. My husband’s steak was horrible (see the picture). I ordered medium cooked tenderloin and it came just raw. Also, service is slow. Definitely not something that you expect when you pay $100ish bill

Decided to come here for Valentines Dinner. Although service was friendly and atmosphere was nice, we were not impressed with their steaks. In our opinion, steaks lacked flavor and the iceberg salad was a little wilted. We did however enjoy our other side option. My spinach casserole was probably the most enjoyed item on my plate and my fiance really enjoyed his loaded baked potato. Not sure if we will come back for steaks. We may try something else next time.
