Came to Ipoh Kopitiam in Alhambra last Friday with my parents and it turned out to be such a comforting meal.

We ordered the Laksa curry, Singaporean style Hainanese chicken rice, and the Char Kway Teow. All three dishes were solid, but the one that really stood out was the Hainanese chicken rice. The chicken was tender and juicy, and the rice was packed with flavor on its own. Once you add the sauces, everything just comes together perfectly. That was easily the most memorable dish of the night.

Our second favorite was the Char Kway Teow. The flat noodles had great texture with a nice smoky wok flavor. It was savory, slightly sweet, and super satisfying. The Laksa curry was rich and comforting with a good balance of spice and coconut.

Ambiance is your typical modern cafe and the noise level was moderate, so we could still talk comfortably. Service was a bit on the slower side, but that’s pretty standard for the 626 so we weren’t surprised. If you want to save some time, you can join the Yelp waitlist ahead of time which definitely helps minimize the wait.

Parking can be difficult during lunch since the lot is small and shared with other businesses. Street parking is available, but you might have to walk a little.

Overall, the food was amazing and I would definitely come back for the chicken rice and Char Kway Teow.

I would wait an hour and a half for this place. It is my favorite restaurant in LA!!!

This place is well-deservingly packed, even at 5pm. The first time my dad and I went, we just followed our noses and eyes to figure out what to order. The laksa is so fragrant and the shrimp is so fresh — just don’t let it sit. The roti literally burned my fingers — that’s how hot and freshly prepared it was. The curry is on the slightly more sour end (it tastes like it has tomatoes?) and the beef rendang is so flavorful — I would pick this instead of the chicken curry to pair with the roti.

The char kway teow is perfectly sweet and salty while not being too oily. The fried chicken wings were spectacularly juicy and weren’t overseasoned. The pineapple buns are also good for sharing between 4 people. I’d stick to that over the kaya toast personally because the flavor didn’t shine through as much, but that is also pretty good. Even the steamed yu choy was amazing, with the shallot oil flavor balancing super well with the whole veggie.

The only miss of this place out of all of the dishes I’ve tried would probably be the wanton mee but the soup was also delicious. It felt a little too oily for me and I also just wasn’t a fan of the noodle texture and thinness.

A group of 4 is the perfect spot for the number of dishes you can eat and the time you spend waiting! There’s a free underground parking garage, and you can join the Yelp waitlist ahead on the app.

We absolutely loved our visit to Ipoh Kopitiam!Everything was so delicious and packed with that authentic Malaysian flavor we’ve been craving. The nasi hainam was incredibly tender and fragrant, the dry wanton mee was perfectly seasoned, and the sambal had the right amount of kick. Even the Milo drink tasted just like home!

We’re already missing Ipoh’s food, and of course we’ll definitely be back. Highly recommended for anyone looking for real, comforting Malaysian flavors! ✨

Noticed that this spot was getting some popularity so wanted to try out their food. This restaurant specializes in Malaysian and HK cuisine. We ordered the Roti Canai w/ Beef Rendang, Nasi Lemak w/ Rendang Curry Beef , and Char Kway Teow. All were very solid dishes. I love roti and have tasted some really good roti before, the ones here were pretty good, but I did remember wishing that the roti wasn’t as dense. I wished they made the skin a little thinner so that it could be more on the crispier side vs chewy side, but this is completely personal preference. The curry and beef sauce compliments well with the roti! The char kway teow was also delicious, but nothing extraordinary. The rice dish was also good but my least favorite, just because I felt it was lacking some sauce. The chicken was tender and full of flavor, but because there was just more rice the ratio felt a bit off. We ended up using some of the curry from the roti and that paired super well with the dish! It was quite busy when we went on a Thurs afternoon. The place is quite spacious with a good amount of seating. We ended up parking in a garage close by and walked to the restaurant. Staff were friendly and the food came out fairly quick and all around the same time!

Super long wait but worth it because you can check in online and wait elsewhere. Chicken rendang/curry in nasi lemak was moist and super flavorful. Very impressive!
Dry Wonton noodle soup was good. A bit too much noodle to wonton ratio, but all was very delicious. Satisfying soup and wonton
Our waiter could’ve been friendlier

The best and most authentic Malaysian food I ever had in the United States. Ipoh kopitiam is a famous chain in Malaysia. I am so happy when I found out they opened a store in Alhambra. We had the chicken rice, kway teow noodles and roti canai. All amazing. The place is always crowded and service is quick. There was a waitlist but it went by super quick.

We ordered the Singapore Curry Laksa, Rendang Curry Beef, Kaya Toast, and White Coffee.
Everything was absolutely delicious especially the Rendang Curry Beef, which was insanely good.

I’ve been to Singapore about twelve times, and the Laksa here tasted just like what I had there.

The interior also really reminded me of cafes in Singapore and Malaysia — cozy, casual, and authentic. Definitely worth visiting if you miss Southeast Asian flavors.

Delicious food! Seems like there’s a long line during the day but we ate around 8pm with little to no line. The Hainan chicken is our favorite! Meat is super tender and soft and the sauces provided are delicious. We also loved the Kaya toast and butter. Can’t beat the classics! Parking is available underground behind the building.

Amazing Malaysian/Singaporean food! Came here for the breakfast sets. Price is so reasonable! A set comes with entree + hot drink + side. Tried the curry noodles, kaya butter toast, and hot milk tea. Everything was on point and authentic! Also impeccable service, they offered us refills for the milk tea. You have to come here for breakfast!
